Isn't this a bit too over the top to be live-action? I know Jojo got the live action treatment but that's self aware over the top campiness, this requires you to take it at least a little seriously.

If Akagi and Kaiji can get live-action adaptations, there's no reason why this one can't pull it off. The latter even had segments featuring a lion for the gambling contestants to deal with.

Well if nothing else, at least we know it did well enough get a live-action series. If it flopped, we wouldn't have heard anything else about it. Hopefully a second season is on the horizon.

8 volumes for the main series and 3 spin-offs focusing on different characters with their own storylines. Not bad for a series which only started syndication in 2014.
It's successful enough in its own right as far as the Japanese market is concerned. Fans outside of Japan are a nice bonus on top of the primary market which drives adaptations like this.

Considering the 1st season had to end with an original ending, I'm kind of surprised by this. Then again, live-action can just change stuff and follow follow the actual story.
