One of the best aspects of running a Facebook page dedicated to sharing animation is that a lot of people literally just message me with things like this every day. There are tons of brilliant student projects being posted on YouTube pages like Gobelins, especially. Places like Hyun's Dojo post a lot of sillier stuff, but they will occasionally have collaborations with young digital artists as well, like Optical Core, Andoru, and Guzzu to put together some pretty amazing stuff.
Independent animation regularly comes up with some of the literal most creative stuff out there. It can be overwhelming to follow all of it, but I always look forward to checking these pages as often as possible. My twitter feed is like 90% just dope a** animation these days. Oh yeah, this is an insane French Indie project that was just posted a couple of days ago as well. Heads up, it's pretty explicit!! |

How I would make an indy anime: a 12-episode 24-min. original web anime series is made. Save for the advertising, our company did all the work to make this series. This 35-person studio holds all the copyright or trademarks to said work. Being copyright minimalists and fans of the Creative Commons and/or public domain, we would allow for people to fan sub the work or putting on YT. They would just need to credit it us. Also, concerning fan art/fics, fans could do that provided it adheres to their country's laws.

Also something I forgot to mention earlier, if you want to see, specifically, Japanese student projects, you can find a ton of them just by searching 自主制作 on YouTube. Which basically just means 'independent production'. Some non-Japanese projects use the term as well, but it's understandably mostly domestic work.
