this show was a huge flop and the worst in the franchise lol. Why would they even do any new projects with it

The show IMO had a huge potential concept-wise, and suffered mostly because of the strange script. A theatrical compilation version can do it good with rewrites.

I don't "hate" Reconguista, I just thought it went all over the place. It had some cool characters that if they were in better hands, could have been very intersting. Except for the whole spoiler[sibling] plot twist. That was dumb. I heard a while back that they were making a movie compilation, not sure if this is the same thing or not. but I'll at lease look into it when it's out.

This show has managed to stay on my mind after all this time, and I re-watched it again recently - it's really something, and the more I think about it the better it gets. I've been thinking of writing some more extensive thoughts about it sometime, somewhere.
The idea of compilation movies or something is interesting in this case, since I think the show had a lot to say, and did have a certain relational through-line in there that was supposed to be the easy latch on point - namely, Bellri and Aida's relationship - but it didn't end up working out that way. I suspect the idea here is to make that more of a focal point, but we'll see. Anyway, G-Reco sure is G-Reco, and I always, always encourage people to give it a shot, because it seems like it's one of those shows you just never quite know what people will think of. |

This particular Gundam installment had so much wasted potential that I'm glad they're returning to the series. Hopefully they'll take the opportunity to clean it up a bit.

Hope if its a movie that it's at least a movie sequel. I feel it needs a sequel trilogy to iron out the main series. G-Self without the packs was a really nice design. Series as is right now is on the lower ends of franchise. Only one I feel is worse than this is Age and is tied with Seed Destiny as 2nd worst. Here's to hoping we get something to tidy up the series.

Although I do think that it's messy to a degree, it does make me think that I've been used to be treated comfortably (or spoiled) by the now anime storytelling with its traditional way of communicating its messages, much scripted and made-easier-to-grasp dialogs, generic plot structure, etc. That when I saw G Reconguista and followed the flow of people talking just as they wanted, the story unfolded just as it did, the seemingly unstructured developments departing from the generic plot development, I was just not used to those things. In the end, although those things made the series somewhat careless of its audience, it did make an interesting anime experience, and could be a fun ride, 'so messy that it's fun' stuff.

If it has another screenwriter and director (Tomino works best as a creator and executive producer at this stage) it might work

It's not even in top five bad Gundam anime, as far as I'm concerned. Though to be honest, I never finished it because it just didn't hold my interest as much as some other anime from around the time. Maybe this will allow me to give it another shot. I don't want to turn down Tomino Gundam.
Tomino is an excellent director, he's just not the best writer. |

I'm up for it. Yes Reconguista was kind of a mess, but I still enjoyed it all the way through, mostly because of the excellent art and animation.

Maybe this is the project where he redeems himself, for he is also aware that Reconguista flopped.

Production values and ideas were absolutely there but the scripts and executions were lacking.
A direct sequel won´t serve anyone but they could try doing a heavily rewritten movie version. Reconguista didn´t lose money btw. The perfectly forgettable Iron-Blooded shouldn´t be that more profitable on a per season basis either. Eh. The last good Gundam tv show was 00, a decade ago. |
