Even at 2 in the morning, I don't see how they're gonna get away with showing this without *MAJOR* censoring.

I've never known TCM to censor their films. It will almost certainly be shown uncensored.

TCM is a specialty channel like HBO. Especially at 2 am they can show just about anything they want. It's also worth noting that the FCC relies on viewer complaints to police broadcasts. They have almost no monitoring systems of their own. The people who have paid for TCM probably know what to expect at that time on that channel and won't complain, and anyone who would complain would either turn it off when they see its a cartoon or not be awake to watch it.

If IFC can play Hostel 2 uncut in a Sunday afternoon, TCM can play Belladonna at 2am. Hell, they could probably run Urotsukidoji and no one would bat an eye.

TCM has played films like Carnal Knowledge and I Am Curious (Yellow) fully uncensored. They're not going to change their long-standing policy for this film.

Will it be among the most explicit things ever shown on basic cable? Yep. So no one tip off the PTC.

I actually don't think TCM is under a paywall like HBO, but I'm under the impression that even basic cable channels don't need to follow FCC rules, only broadcast networks do (in America, that's CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, The CW, PBS and various local stations). That's why channels like Comedy Central and even Adult Swim tend to change their minds on what curse words they will or won't air every other week. Laughing

If anyone is wondering, this will be on the Canadian version of TCM at the same time, according to their website:

Yes, if someone is motivated to complain, they'll need to complain to TCM, as the FCC has no authority over cable programming as long as its not ruled obscene.

For anyone interested (or recording), Fantastic Planet follows it at 4am.

They used to be under a paywall back in the '90s, but since have moved to basic in a lot of places. Their choice of airing movies uncut without commercials may also have something to do with their dedication to film preservation.

Anyway, I'm glad I have the opportunity to catch the restored version of this avante-garde classic. When Cinelicious restored the film, supposedly they added back in a few scenes which are probably missing from the Japanese DVD I own.

Although think TCM also has an alternate stream for cable companies that show the channel in the non-premium commercial-cable tier (I've got Xfinity, where it's on the optional Premium tier if you already pay $99+/mo. for the Digital package, the freakin' Blackbeard pirates...), and explicit movies are usually substituted.
Used to get the "free" version of the channel on another provider, and never saw anything untoward.

I have TCM on basic cable. I've never seen anything deviate from the schedule on their website, nor have I noticed any censorship on the TV-MA / R rated films they show.

I get it on basic and it's the same as the premium stream. Films like the ones the user mentioned above are played very rarely on the channel and only really late at night.

Well, I'm annoyed now. On their web site, I told it to give me the sched for PST, and it said 2:15 am. But it looks like I still got the EST feed, so I missed it. Darn.

As an alternative, Vimeo just put it up as a rental stream.
