Personally, I think Sun & Moon are a step down from X and Y. The only thing better is the graphics. I'm not into the Hawaiian theme, the rival is so annoying and is too involved with the MC, Team Skull are a joke and they made team Flare seem legit. And having to groom Pokemon after battles is a waste of time. And worst of all, the games are too linear and the story (and a weak one I might add even by Pokemon standards) doesn't allow for exploring new places, it pretty much leads to to point a and point b. I can't remember the names of any of the Kahunas nor do I care, I just want to get the trials out of the way.

Grooming your Pokémon immediately after winning a battle is optional...

X & Y weren't really that much of step up from Black & White.

A pokemon game that's too linear?....Weird.

Also, Team Flare is SUPPOSED to be a joke. They're not only highly ineffectual, everyone in-game knows it and Guzma is being played like a fiddle by the REAL villain of this game.
Personally, the main things I have about Pokémon Sun and Moon are that Alola feels kind of small as a region, and there isn't that much post-game. But the latter has been a recurring thing for a while among Pokémon games that begin a generation. I felt the story to be just fine, and there is no way Hau is a worse character than Calem/Serena, Tierno, Trevor, or Shauna.

As silly as Team Flare is at least their arc didn't interfere often when playing X and Y. But Sun and Moon, since we're devoting so much time into its 'story', it had more reason to utilize more interesting villains, but it didn't. Team Rocket's the only organization that actually makes sense and they needed an org. with a more sensical motivation more than ever this time around. I still don't get what the hell Lusamine's goal was and quite frankly, now that I'm done with the game for now, I'm going back to playing X/Y online. I'm only coming back to S&M just for event Pokemon. I didn't feel tied down with X and Y nearly as much as S&M.
IRL, I'd tell Hau to piss off. He's so Goddamn annoying. I cringed every time he appeared.

Well, you're welcome to play a previous generation's Pokémon games, but for clarification, Lusamine's goal was to remain in Ultra Space for the rest of her life and surround herself with the Ultra Beasts. Nihilego's neurotoxins caused her to become single-mindedly obsessed with the Ultra Beasts to the detriment of herself and everyone else. Aether Foundation began as a philanthropic organization founded by Lusamine's father using his vast monetary resources, and while Lusamine initially followed with her father's goals, the Aether Foundation discovered a means of reaching Ultra Space, which caused Ultra Beasts to appear in Alola. To combat this threat, they developed the Type: Null program, but it was scrapped when they weren't sure how to control Null's power. It was a bit later that Lusamine was struck by that venom and became what she is when the game began. Her obsession with Ultra Beasts causes problems for Alola because her breach into Ultra Space caused an unprecedented amount of Ultra Beasts to leak out, all of whom are capable of immense destruction.
