Let me be the first to thank you for this incredibly useful and illuminating resource! I love seeing this kind of passion project.
If anyone's looking for a quick-and-dirty, easily-searchable list of these positions, check this highly convenient yet well-hidden Wikipedia page. It doesn't contain every single job title variant, but I believe all of the positions mentioned in this guide are there somewhere. It's particularly handy for people like me, "upper-level beginners" who recognize but don't read many kanji; I'm constantly going, "exactly what was that again?" and ctrl+fing that page to work it out. |

Oh my god!!! It's finally here!
I'll be reading through this in a minute, but just wanted to say a huge thanks to you Kevin, for all of your work. Having more educated fans is invaluable. Thanks again! |

Best article yet. I have to admit that when a show has more than one director credited, I have a hard time figuring out which of them outranks the other.
One thing I find very interesting about storyboarding is that it's usually the stage where the director makes lots of changes to the script, which is their prerrogative. I assume that's the reason why Yoshiyuki Tomino's shows have that distinctive dialogue regardless of who's credited for the script, and why Oshii's movies feature those drawn-out lectures even when Kazunori Ito writes the screenplay. |

Could somebody identify the voice actresses in the picture? I recognize Uesaka Sumire on the left, but I don't know about the other actresses.

From left to right we have: Sumire Uesaka, Azumi Asakura, Chinatsu Akasaki, Maaya Uchida, Tatsuya Ishihara, and Noriyuki Kitanohara This is a screencapture taken from the second "making of" segment from the Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions Japanese video releases. For this feature, the voice actresses for the four main girls visited Kyoto Animation's Studio 1 to see how things are made. Kevin chose to use this segment since it interviews Kitanohara, the episode director and storyboarder for episodes 3 and 9 for the first season. |

One thing that I'd like to say thanks for, specifically, is all of the Kanji to romaji translations. I have learned and memorized at least a dozen kanji thanks to these guides. I can now watch the credits in real time and pick out who is the director and episode director, and key animators, cast, etc. thanks to these guides.

Thanks again for this series
I'd still like to see more about the audio side of the story, but it's been quite informative so far. I'd also like to request again sources for the images you have included and linked. I've traced the imageboards-compared-to-storyboards images to Studio Colorido's Hinata No Aoshigure movie, and found that it and a few more of their works aren't even in the Encyclopedia yet
Other lists I've found useful occasionally are these two on ANN. |
