Kodansha Comics plans to release the eighth omnibus volume of Vinland Saga this fall, and it will include volumes 15 and 16. The company told ANN, "we are not adding any further volumes after Book Eight to our schedule at this time."

While i am honestly happy that vol.8 is going to be released, this is getting a bit tiresome...

Just how bad Vinland's sales are anyway? I'm really happy that we'll see volume 8 though and at least they said "at this time" so I guess there is still hope. I finally caught up with the volumes a couple of weeks ago so I hope I'll be able to pre-order volume 8 as soon as it becomes available.

This is good news, but I wish Vinland Saga had some security. Kodansha know that it is too good not to be brought over. That's for sure.

Haven't seen or read Akira. That set is excellent news for me. Everything I want it to be. The 2017 manga motive.

This is probably because there's only 1 more volume out and they don't know when the 18th one will be out, since they need 2 volumes for each book of theirs.

These are great news, I love this manga and the hardcover edition makes it even better ^^

Merida: As long as they keep ignoring my suggestion to advertise Vinland Saga on that Vikings show on cable, they're going to have to continue delaying the manga. And if fans are really unlucky, cancel it.

That Akira re-release is amazing. Don't even care about other future extras, I'm just glad that I'll be able to read it in right-to-left for the first time in English. I'm gonna guess that they keep current translation, which is certainly fine.

That's my (optimistic) take on it, as well. Volume 17 came out just a few months ago in Japan, and 18 won't be out till after the eighth omnibus release here in the United States. Obviously more uncertainty can make fans anxious, but given the decision to go ahead with future releases and the apparent fan support (i.e. purchasing and word-of-mouth) that made it happen, we can still hope for and expect Kodansha to release more.

I'm interested in Akira and hopefully it will have a much nicer looking release than ones I saw in a bookstore a few years ago. I didn't buy those because honestly I found them to be cheap quality.

Haven't they almost caught up to the Japanese releases anyways? Its not like they could release an omnibus with just one volume (17). If they were to release volumes 17 &18 it wouldn't happen till 2017 maybe late 2017 so it would be premature to announce it on a schedule.

Anyways, I'll be buying this book just like the previous volumes. I hope that over time more people become aware of it and help to prop up sales.

To give you an idea it never once appeared on the NY times best sellers list, and it had pretty atrocious sales rankings on Amazon.Am they decided to do another volume of it.

I just bought the third the volume of Akira,so am not sure if I sure just sell them and get this nice set instead(the price for it is pretty ridiculous though.

Sweet, I'm glad they're doing more Vinland Saga! Maybe I'll have actually read the vol 1-7 I bought by the time 8 comes out, lol (hey, I might not have read them yet, but at least I contributed to the sales numbers). Ugh, my manga backlog man, my manga backlog...

It's good the original version of the Akira manga is finally being released unflipped, but I'm only interested in getting the full color version released in the 80s/90s by Marvel's Epic Comics. Otomo was involved in that, and it's a huge improvement IMO. To collect the whole series that way, you need to track down the individual comics. It was never completed in collected form before Marvel lost the license. We NEED a reissue of that.

I would also love a rerelease of that version. IIRC, there was a special edition released in Japan some years back that used Epic Comics' coloring. I can't remember if it was flipped or not, but each of the six volumes came in plastic slipcases and were fairly expensive. If that set was made available in English, I'd be all over it.

Torn on this one, though. It'd be neat to be able to compare the flipped and unflipped versions side by side (especially since Otomo retouched his own artwork for the flipped one), but I already own the full series as printed by Dark Horse, one of the Epic volumes, and the English edition of Akira Club. There needs to be something more to this to get me to double-dip.

Also, yay on more Vinland Saga!!

I actually have the old English version of the Akira manga. Are the pages mirrored or did they do something else to get it left-to-right?
