Yeah, this reminds me a bit of the old Strike Witches franchise. Definitely looking forward to that as long as it captures the thrill and excitement of the original series.

Right, so this is Brave Witches first key visual? Everything about it is so Yoshika, I actually thought it was her until I looked at the ears.
I know there's only so many differences you can do for character designs, animal ears and weaponry but when the first thing that comes to mind when creating the main character of a spin off is to copy and paste the previous main character, you may as well just do a regular continuation.

As a big Strike Witches fan I was a little disappointed it wasn't a season 3 after the Movie with the good old 501st but any more material from the franchise is a good thing.
But this character image they just released looks so much like Yoshika and is one of the 2 new original characters for the show since she wasn't part of the original 502nd.
Do not know if this show will live up to the magic of the original character wise or story wise but I'll still watch it.

Well, enjoyed Strike Witches plenty, so to see something of a continuation or otherwise, is a nice breather, I guess, lol. X3

I liked the Strike Witches franchise because of all of the WWII-era gear they work with and the historical in-jokes/references, just like Girls und Panzer, and to a far far lesser extent Kantai Collection (all references, no tech). And the strong characterization and cast interplay. And the background scoring.
Oddly enough, I think part of the reason why I like it so much is because I grew up watching M*A*S*H and I see a lot of parallels between the two franchises, including some character expies.
Hopefully the trend toward reduced fanservice in anime means this will be a series I won't be embarassed to admit to liking. If it's made like the movie was then it will be just about perfect. If the 6th episode focuses on Sanya (she's back in the 502nd right?) and the 7th episode is a shameless fanservice episode I'll be disappointed, but at least that will mean they are following the same Episode Formula from the two SW seasons, so there will be a good multi-episode drama arc at the end. Probably involving the military higher-ups swatting down the Witches' CO while trying to make a supersoldier from Neuroi-based technology, which will fail and require the witches to save the day. Again.
(Not that having a Sanya-specific episode is disappointing, mind you. The quiet characters are often the most interesting ones)
