"Tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down..."
This really is the worst Kickstarter ever. |

This project has been an ongoing fiasco, with delivery dates pushed out by over a year, and changes in focus from the story mode to a multi-player mode, which was interpreted as a sign that the developer was in way over their heads and hoped to just throw the game engine out there and run the hell away. Maybe we should have thought twice before trusting an SRPG to a company whose previous highlight was the Tanto Cuore anime maid card game (and good as that game was, Unsung Story was to be a whole different and much more ambitious development effort).
I'm only in for $50, but have friends who pledged more, and it's really something that Playdek managed to raise $660,000 and have absolutely nothing to show for it. Lots of backers in the comments are swearing off Kickstarters for good (cue the "I told you so" crowd) and vowing legal action (I've never heard of that working with Kickstarter, but there's a first time for everything). On the bright side, it'll still probably come out before the Megatokyo VN does. (Kidding, but just barely) |

$20 that I might as well have thrown off a bridge. Oh well. I feel so bad for those 4 poor bastards that committed $2500. I really hope they pursue legal action and get their money back. What Playdek is doing is inexcusable, and if no one takes action against them, other developers might pull the same bullshit. Kickstarter is a great way for developers to generate funds, but they need to be held accountable for it.

Yes, I can tell that Playdek didn't have all the right cards put into place, even with the $660,000+ in hand. It's very disheartening to see all that money to go waste for a project that never materialized.
If one wants to sue them for a refund, bad news: technical difficulties in legality matters make that virtually impossible. |
