The style/genre of poetry reciting which the vocalist Suzuhana Yūko uses in tunes of Wagakki Band is shigin, and whilst Japanese-style poems, too, are done in shigin, actually, poems recited in shigin are usually Classical Chinese poetry (including poems written by Japanese people in the Classical Chinese poetry style). In fact, for example, the poem which Suzuhana Yūko recites in a Wagakki Band tune 'Akatsuki no Ito' is 'Gǎnshì' by Yú Fén.
In the late Edo period, some Japanese people recited Classical Chinese poems, and it is the direct ancestor of shigin. |
