It's not a Toyota, it's a Subaru with a Toyota badge on it :-p

Exactly. I know it was a Subaru-Toyota colaboration, but to a petrolhead like me the car is the drive train and the drive train is the car. Pop the bonnet on a Toyota86 and you see a Subaru engine and drive train. Basically a sheep wearing a wolf's clothing. Gluing a Toyota badge on it isn't going to convince me otherwise.

They sell something like 10 to 1 Toyotas because of some agreement between them limiting the number of BRZs.

Looks like the Scion FRS to me. And lo and behold they're all the same car.

I think I see the Eight-Six in the second picture, trailing behind that new car. If they actually did replace the Eight-Six, not sure how well that's gonna go over.

The article is a little bit misleading, it makes it sound like it's a new, movie-only version of the AE86. True, it's a Toyota 86, but a GT86, aka "the successor of the AE86".
Just a note: the GT86's license plate (3-954) is quite similar to Takumi's AE86 (13-954).

In the final scene of 5th stage, when we saw the new FRS/BRZ make it's cameo, I just simply took it as Takumi's 86 is now officially retired and here comes it's successor and with that, ushering in a new era of cars and the finale to Initial D.
My guess would be Bunta driving the GT86 and thus the 22B becoming officially Takumi's, but that's just my guess and unless Shigeno reopens his book of Initial D, I guess it won't matter too much.
