If anyone was thinking this series is anything like Dragon Half, it's not.

A small piece of advice: turn back.

Ahh Dragonar Adademy... I watched it and really liked it which is apparently odd. But let me reiterate, I watched it because I was looking for a generic/stupid fantasy harem set in a high school with some fanservice. In that regard it gave me exactly what I wanted so I couldn't really complain. Is it a good anime? Nah. Would I recommend it to friends? Probably not. But it was just the thing I was looking for when I watched it, so it has a special place in my heart.

I think its pretty stupid that a Fanservice show is being reviewed like its suppose to compete with Citizens Kane. It's a [expletive] titty show with an adorable dragon girl and antics. Review it like you want to see a pair of tits and the show is actually pretty good. It's dumb to try and dissect this like its a piece of art.

That's kinda what he did though. Asking questions like "does it succeed purely as a vehicle for fanservice, then?" and "perhaps it succeeds as a vehicle for dragon fights and/or porn?" is something you do when you are talking about an ecchi show, not Citizen Kane.

The Dragonar anime only covered the 1st 4 volumes. There's still 16 more volumes of content to cover.

From what little info I could gather,
spoiler[Ash's father is a major villain in the later novels.
The harem situation still remains unresolved in the end.
The very short epilogue has a illustration of a baby dragon at the end, suggesting a revival of the dragon race and an Ash x Eco coupling.

Yeah, I think you entirely missed the point of what Nick was doing. This is trashing a show in at least a mildly humorous way, and frankly, it's what the show deserves.

While I do agree that fan service shows should get judged with more emphasis on how well their fan service component works, in this case I don't think it makes a difference. The uncensored fan service in the release might make this one a little more tolerable, but even as fan service shows go this one was pretty bad. More than once while following its original release I thought to myself, "I can't believe that I'm actually watching out this crap." It is probably the worst series in recent memory that I have actually finished.

*MIC DROP*

*sustained, thunderous applause*

I was going to post something for Nick along the lines of "tell us how you really feel", but I think you've won by such a huge margin that I am in awe. All credit to Nick and you for having watched this all the way through.

Semi-unrelated question, do you guys ever score anything with an E? Because I've seen plenty of Ds and the rare F, but never an E.

I'm assuming they're going by the typical American letter grade system. You can go as low as a D, but after than it's F (failure). E isn't used.

well, if you want to watch a generic fantasy light novel adaptation that actually does show some nudity, this is the show I'd reccomend, partly because most of the generic ones are only teases, partly because I have not watched enough generic fantasy light novel animes to actually know if there are more like this one that do it's job better.

this is pretty much another zero no tsukaima/shakugan no shana, with a marginally worse plot/execution and the rie kugimiya character is not voiced by rie kugimiya. probably the most interesting part plot wise was the female knight , since in this specific formula she usually gets relegated to teh background pretty badly, and she also got the best fanservice scene (the massage one).

now, I know very little people that fit this mold, I watched this withour drop because I ahd nto watched a generic light novel adaptation in a while and that season was weak on uncensored fanservice show.

talking about censorship, there are 3 versions of this one, the censored broadcast, the at-x version which is mostly uncensored except for the dragon child, and the blu ray version that also has uncensored dragon kid. so, which version is the one being reviewed?

What are you guys talking about Dragonar gives Citizen Kane a run for his money.

But Dragonar really is an unfortunate show. It's surely a hate watch but the art is just not good, especially in terms of the rather nasty color scheme used for the forest settings.

However, I have read the first volume of he manga and intend to buy more because the characters are cute and the art overall is well done. Regardless, it's still terrible material, but at least the artistic merit improves.

And the fan service in this show was not good. The shame aspect was in worse taste than most shows of this type imo.

At that point just track down Shinmai Maou uncensored instead.

Or if you want something currently airing (albeit not light novel-based), then watch Valkyrie Drive uncensored instead.

I fell asleep while watching episode 1 of Valkyrie Drive Neutral At least Dragonar kept me marginally engaged!
