I heard about this series before, been eager to check it out in the future. The cover art looks interesting enough.

Weird, got a pop up saying this thread is over a month old...
Anyway, interesting to see what will happen with a story that actually won the top prize in its category. Seeing as it will be 2 volumes long, it's be something I'd like to see animated, based solely on it having a high possibility of having an adaption that will cover the entire story.

Well, at least we got some image associated with that title. Now to wait what the heck Violet Ever Garden is about. It looks like a shoujo-y period piece.

I really like the cover art. I wonder if the story will be something that interests me.

It's probably 2 volumes but it could be three.
上 means "upper" and 下 means "lower," and in this situation, they do indicate where a long novel has been split into two volumes. But sometimes there's a 中 (middle) volume between them, so there could be three.
Also, when this kind of counting is used, the "volumes" are parts of the same novel. For example, the "Crusher Joe" series has volumes numbered 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8上下,9... The eighth one was a bit long, so they split it up (and get to charge double for it).

That art is gorgeous. I'm curious about the novel. I hope it gets animated, just because I'm shallow and it looks pretty. x'D;

Hey, at least ya admit it.
Some people rather pose something to be deeper than it really is.

Hold the phone, someone actually won the KyoAni prize at last? They usually just say "sorry no-one won, but thanks for the ideas guys we'll use those!"

Yes, it won the grand prize last year. Apparently it wasn't newsworthy enough to get an article from ANN.
Also, that's a completely wrong statement to make. The anime adaptions have won "honorable mentions" or "encouragement awards" at minimum. They've not adapted anything that wasn't awarded (and paid) something.

It just so happens that ANN did not bother to report that Violet Evergarden had won the grand prize. So if you only get your anime news from ANN then your remarks are understandable albeit uninformed.

Violet Evergarden was mentioned in the coverage of the 6th KyoAni awards earlier this year, so although it didn't get a dedicated article it's not like it's never been reported.

I ain't even going to try and pretend I know what it's about or that it's good; I just see lovely designs and art, and I want it. >u<
