Someone in the Chinese Ministry of Culture has managed to watch some great anime on government time and, presumably, on a public servant wage. Not a bad lurk if you ask me. If we could find out who they are we could get them to create an ANN account and encourage them to complete the "My Anime" section so we could see which ones they actually completed. Better yet, perhaps we could encourage them to write reviews from a Marxist perspective - an old socialist like me would appreciate it.

Remember folks, the Chinese government is just trying to protect you.
Listen and obey.
(Some items on the list are quite comical)

I laughed when I saw your comment! But, yeah, I can totally see why these titles made the list.
Violent for kids, fun for us adults.

I know, right? Sometimes it feels as though we're not getting enough gory anime nowadays.

That's too extreme of thinking it. It's hard to explain how they ban titles like that, but some things viewed as offensive or offensive to their government there will get banned. I've never seen SAO fully, so maybe someone overlooked the themes and tone of the show.

"opinions from experts"
Sooooo China is pretty much saying (for example) "gosh Psycho-Pass was really good! Let's blacklist it!"

Any of you lived in China recently? Not gone there just for a holiday?
If you have, some of the titles on the banned list would not be a surprise. I don't agree with some of the selections, but I'm not the one in charge of keeping a huge bulk of the world's population under control with considerable pressure from the top to make it happen.
I'm not sure about now, but this website isn't on the list of restrictions imposed on domestic internet users. At any rate, those who can afford it can easily bypass the filters and/or get their hands on the titles they follow without too much difficulty.

My body is ready! Soon we'll see a dream country free from those indecent and violent things. Brace yourselves!

This. It's like a parent that sees their child reading a book they don't like. Ban it, Take it away, doesn't make much difference. If the child wants it they will find a way to get it, indeed banning it usually guarantees that it will be acquired and read if for no other reason than spite.
The Chinese leadership has a hopeless & thankless task of holding together a huge diverse country that if left alone would fragment in a dozen different directions with predictable results.

Good that these gory and dark Anime are banned. The children will finally be safe.
Now, let's broadcast Hellsing and Higurashi immediately

Well...I look forward to seeing the Chinese government's vision of a gory-free, sex-free paradise to become a reality once they're done blacklisting all the anime shows and manga that they think are "too obscene for the market."
