This is probably the one record that won't be broken in a long time for a movie based on a late-night show!

It's going to be hard trying to outperform those massive earnings the film of Love Live has engrossed these past three months.

Great they sold a lot! Hopefully the creators have earned a large amount of money to satisfy their greed and are willing to close up shop and retire!

Cinema Today gives the exact numbers as of Sep 27:
http://www.cinematoday.jp/page/N0076861 Here is a summary of the box office gross at all the countries the Love Live Movie has been shown at. Worldwide gross is above 2.7 billion yen now, which is pretty good for a late-night/midnight anime movie. Key: Release date / Gross / Gross (yen) / Tickets sold / Update as of... / Country 2015/06/13 ¥2,601,409,780 ¥2,601,409,780 1,841,941 09/27 Japan 2015/08/06 ***HK$760,000 *~¥11,770,141 *,***,*** 08/09 Hong Kong 2015/08/07 ~NT$3,530,000 *~¥12,999,665 *,***,*** 08/23 Taiwan 2015/08/29 Data unknown Thailand 2015/09/03 *₩623,098,500 *~¥63,813,630 *,*80,950 10/04 South Korea 2015/09/12 ***US$115,840 *~¥13,947,136 *~13,500 09/13 US 2015/09/12 Data unknown Mexico 2015/09/12 *****A$40,071 **~¥3,404,191 *,***,*** 09/20 Australia 2015/09/12 *****NZ$4,881 ***~¥368,326 *,***,*** 09/15 New Zealand 2015/09/17 Data unknown Singapore 2015/10/01 To be determined Malaysia 2015/10/07 To be determined Philippines 2015/10/** To be determined Vietnam 2015/10/18 To be determined UK 2015/10/21 To be determined Indonesia
Definitely, but records are meant to be broken. Amongst the late-night/midnight anime movies coming up, I think the Kizumonogatari movies and the KanColle movie (if they don't screw things up like they did for the first anime season) has the best chance to do so. The upcoming High Speed Free! Movie in December also has a chance to do well too, since it's being shown on 120 screens (1 less than LL, 9 less than Madoka 3, and 17 less than K-ON!). 1~1.5 billion yen gross is my guess. |
