Champa's name is from the name of the alcoholic beverage 'champagne', matching Beers and Whis. Now we just need to learn the name of the other new character.

If they're going to start using alcohol names for all of these antagonists, the Black Organization from Detective Conan is going to sue.

Female Whis should be named after Tequila.

I hope not all gods of destruction are purple bunnies. I worry about Toriyamas creativity with this fat beerus and with the uninspiring transformations of the movies, too plain.

If the theme is alcoholic beverages, then maybe the new, Whis-like character will be named after cognac (コニャック [konyakku]) or brady (ブランデー [burandē]), its wine group. And it fits with the French naming of Shanpa, which is, as noted by others, a derivative from the Japanese pronunciation of the word Champagne (シャンパン [shanpan]).

I take it then that these movies are considered a part of the DB universe canon?

Wait a minute. I haven't watched both Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F yet (I did read the short manga prologue).
I just realized this. If both movies and the upcoming series are the sequel of Z, does that mean that GT is now officially not the canon or some kind of alternate universe?
If that's the case that would too bad.

GT has always been considered non-canon based on Toriyama's extremely scant involvement with the series, and the new movies have only solidified GT's status as a sort of what-if scenario.

I wonder if Champa is from an alternate universe where he was able to eat as much food from Bulma's party as he had hoped for.
