With the realease of all three 'movies' in one box set yesterday, I've been getting a little leery at the prospect of not seeing an 'actual' box set of all the episodes. Can someone here alleviate my fears? I know it would be a long time coming but it would still be nice to know.

Well, I haven't found any evidence that suggests they'll release a boxset, but they do have the starter box, it's DVD 1 plus the artbox and a CD. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

Bandai's been pretty consistent about releasing (sometimes multiple) boxed sets for all of their series, so I imagine Gundam Seed will get some kind of "Complete Collection" or Anime Legends edition at some point. Since its 50 episodes or so, it'll probably be two collections like they did for Wolf's Rain and Gundam Wing.

Yeah your best bet is waiting for the anime legends collection if there ever is one. And hopefully you won't have to wait as long as lots of people did for the Gundam Wing series, since Wolf's Rain came out in a pretty decent time, but as for a boxset with all the disc complete (like Gundam Wing did) I am not sure if Bandai is going to do that anymore. I have a feeling that Black Wolf's Rain box didn't do so hot and they release the legends editions to cash in on some money.

Gundam Wing anime legends was released 5 years after Operation 10 and Gundam Seed is hitting 2 years this May. So, May '09 wouldn't be an unreasonable guess, or even X-Mas '08?
I got a little depressed writing that.

Witch Hunter Robin got an Anime Legends collection three years after its individual run, as did G Gundam, so I'd personally set that as the benchmark for recent Bandai series (remember people, Wing is an ANCIENT Bandai release, so it's not a good one to look for for Anime Legends release timetables). So I'd expect an Anime Legends set for Gundam SEED around 2007 or so. 2009 would be more Mai-HiME territory.

You have a point it would be nice if there was some sort of regular time table for when a series could see a thin-pack edition (anime legend in Bandai case) but then again if everyone knew when thin-pack where out perhaps individuals dvds sale would suffer a lot more.

The vast majority of Gundam series from Bandai are available in Anime Legends set format, minus the original MSG, which irks me. I see no real reason why they'd snub Seed though it seemed quite popular here. I bought them individually with the box myself.

I waited for a TRSI Bandai sale and bought them all:
1 av26000 Gundam SEED DVD 1 (Hyb): Grim Reality 16.19 Shipped
1 av26009 Gundam SEED DVD 10 (Hyb): Days of Destiny 16.19 Shipped
1 av26001 Gundam SEED DVD 2 (Hyb): Unexpected Meetings 16.19 Shipped
1 av26002 Gundam SEED DVD 3 (Hyb): No Retreat 16.19 Shipped
1 av26003 Gundam SEED DVD 4 (Hyb): Desert Warfare 16.19 Shipped
1 av26004 Gundam SEED DVD 5 (Hyb): Archangel's Flight 16.19 Shipped
1 av26005 Gundam SEED DVD 6 (Hyb): Momentary Silence 16.19 Shipped
1 av26006 Gundam SEED DVD 7 (Hyb): Suspicious Motives 16.19 Shipped
1 av26007 Gundam SEED DVD 8 (Hyb): Eternal Crusade 16.19 Shipped
1 av26008 Gundam SEED DVD 9 (Hyb): Evolutionary Conflict 16.19 Shipped
Although not as cheap as a brick, it sure beats $30 each. The Gundam Wing anime essentials go for $50 each, although the essentials are really cheap (26.99) when on sale. The Seed DVDs actually have inserts, that have various Seed terms, which is rare for Bandai.

I'm still waiting on the original Gundam lol.
I too hope its sometime soon because I heard the movie version of the series is pure crap, I think I read a review on this site, and I'm really interested in it since I love robot, specially gundam, shows.
I hate how I always missed every gundam series in the toonami time slot. i wish [as] aired it, but thats a pipe dream.

First off I have the original Gundam DVDs, there dub only. Go with the trilogy of movies which is still available I think.
As for Gundam Seed movies, avoid those the series actually does a good job building character and the movie well they are movies have skip lots of details. As for Gundam Seed, I managed to pick up singles of the series for dirt cheap on Ebay last year...but then again I don't know how you feel about ebay.

The Gundam Seed movies has a bit of new animation, which I somewhat regret buying at retail. It might be worth it at the box set price, which I believe is about half the price. It is much better than the awful 0083 movie, or Millers report, but isn't as good as the other Gundam compilation films. I wish it would have received the 5.1 treatment that First and Zeta movies got.

Miller's Report was actually good for approaching the recap element from the perspective of an investigator and creating an entirely new suplot around the Alice Miller character. The Gundam SEED compilations were just incoherent, though. Even as someone who's seen the series, I had a hard time following the story while watching the compilations, they were just so sloppily thrown together.

The original Gundam movies didn't feel like an abbreviation of the series. Some character development was lost, but the plot flowed just fine. But with the SEED movies, you KNEW you were missing big chunks.
I suppose the original Gundam movies had a bit of an advantage since it was shorter to begin with and a lot of them were Mobile Suit of the Week episodes (or so I hear) and could be easily skipped or mixed together.
SEED, on the other hand, was seven episodes longer and had few episodes that could be skipped outright. Even with that disadvantage taken into account, the movies were still handled poorly. They should have done it in four movies (like they are doing for Destiny) rather than three. The scene transitions were usually abrupt, they used brief narrations to cover several episodes of events, including the introduction of at least one major character. They spent too much time on some of the battles and decided to add new scenes when they were already crunched for time.
Since Gundam SEED Destiny was so craptastic to begin with and there are going to be four movies instead of three, they may not be so (relatively) bad. In fact, depending on what they do and what scenes they remove, they may even be better than the TV series. It's unlikely, but one can hope they may at least patch up that mess a little bit.
