Yay! So happy they got the Shikamaru epilogue novel! I hope it delves a bit into how Shikamaru and Temari got together.
Hey what can I say? I'm still a hardcore ShikaTema shipper and getting into flame wars with ShikaIno shippers on forums back when I was 10/11 are some of the earliest memories of interacting on the internet I have. |

Viz has released several novels over the years including two Naruto ones so it was really just a matter of waiting for them to announce this. I'll be getting them. Emerje |

They had a connection after Shikamaruspoiler[beat her in part 1]. Even Naruto saw it in beginning of part 2. So I doubt that it will get much more detail. |

I don't think it was really as much of a shoe-in as you think it is. Viz's track record for light novels has been... spotty, as best. Their Haikasora imprint handles them better, but mostly sticks to single-volume, or at least really short series that can be crammed into a single omnibus. Of the few long-running LN series Viz they put out (Shana, for instance), most, if not all that I remember were canned, and we rarely get all of the standalone novels for any of their popular manga series either. We only got 2 Naruto novels. Epilogue novels aside, there are at least 10. Aside from that, only 1 Kenshin novel (of 4). 5 FMA novels (of 7, 10 if you count the novelizations of the PS2 games). I could go on. Still, with how hard they're pushing all of this Naruto finale stuff, these novels definitely had a better chance than most, but I was still skeptical. Hopefully they sell well, otherwise we may only get these first three. |

Really happy I stopped buying Naruto after volume forty-something. Can't wait to line up those three box sets next to each other and relish in the thought of all that shelf space I saved.
Also, fingers crossed for the rest of the epilogue novels. Can't wait to get my hands on them |

Despite me NaruSaku self being pissed that it didn't happen, I am also a ShikaTema shipper and am glad that it happened because they showed enough character development with them compared to NaruHina or SasuSaku. |

I don't think this is a sign Viz will be regularly publishing LNs; it's more them trying to get as much out of Naruto as they can. Regardless of personal opinion, Naruto is one of (if not the) biggest manga franchises in the west so it definitely makes sense to release the novels.

Well, almost all of the Naruto novels have just been adaptations of the movies. Prior to the Hiden series, only two of the books featured original stories. Given that the Naruto manga has concluded, and how important it was to their business model, it seemed innevitable to me that they would at least push out translations of the light novels. It's certainly an even more niche market than manga, but they have to do what they can while there's still a lot of interest in the franchise. |

You know with the Sword Art Online Novels doing well, and now Naruto short novels coming out, maybe they will actually start to publish short novels in English. I would love to read Hataraku no Maou Sama or No Game No Life

I'd be surprised if Viz didn't bring these over. It's kind of surprising that they didn't just announce all of them, but since some haven't come out yet, I guess they have to wait.
Can't say 100%, but I'm pretty sure the box sets will take up the same shelf space. Unless they pack them in another way, I think they are just lined up next to each other in a box. The volumes are the same size.
Then good news, because Yen Press just put out the first volumes of both of those light novels (along with Log Horizon). http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/cY94Wquo4GVCVkaSJ5/browse/item/103784/4/0/0 |

I'm really thrilled to see this. If big name titles can help bolster the appeal of light novels to publishers outside of Japan I am all for it.
Will definitely pick these up. Always fascinated by side-stories that can highlight characters aside from the MC. Between this, SAO's progressive novels, and the upcoming Durarara!! novels from Yen, I am in heaven. |
