My MU/amazon review and this return will be the make or break point for me.
Still no purpose (6/10) xxxHolic is all in all the best thing Clamp ever put out (the x anime adaptation notwithstanding) so maybe you can understand my disappointment with how it "ended". This time around there is no "side series" to work round so i was hopeful and waited for a proper ending/continuation. What i have now (Vol. 2 is the current one) is not what i can be content with. At best it is a side story during the originals first act. At worst it is just a license to print money and Clamp would NEVER do that. Right ? I hope the story starts to kick in soon or i will have to kick the manga and that would be a shame. Update: Volume 3 and i am still not feeling it. 2 more and i am out but a Hiatus (Clamp never ?) has befallen the series too. What is the point again? Go for the Pet Shop of Horrors (8/10) franchise and Tokyo Babylon (8/10) instead and just accept the non ending of part 1 at this point as am not reading the Tsubasa - World Chronicle - Niraikanai Hen parallel narrative already. |

For me, the main selling point of xxxHolic has been the art. Clover is my favorite manga, but even I have to admit that Ohkawa Nanase isn't exactly Urasawa Naoki.
Every volume of xxxHolic and xxxHolic Rei has been gorgeous, though. I'm not ashamed to say that sometimes I take them all off the shelf and just stare at the covers for a while. |

Yeah CLAMP can draw beautifully, but with so many unfinished projects, I've pretty much swerved away from picking up anything they put out for the last several years for fear that I'll get hooked just as they get bored and jump to something else.

Great news for me, even I've still to get exactly what this XXXholkic rei si about (side story, alternate univers or whatever).
Actually I was quite satisfied with the XXXholic "regular " serie ending however... I hope this also will be the driver to Drug&Drop that's still in hiatus. |
