Don't forget the staff as well:
Director: Takehiro Nishiyama (first time he's directing this, he previously did storyboard and worked under episode/animation director role in the past)
Series Composition: Go Zappa
Character Design: Yoshinari Saito
Animation Production: Nomad
I can't turn my eyes off when I see this. I really had mild hopes for this, considering the fact that some of its staff members had previously worked on Milky Holmes TD and Galat produced the Magica Wars Zanbatsu PS Vita game (in which Nomad also participated in charge of designing the characters).

Another idol show? There's been quite a lot lately, and frankly I don't see anything here different from your typical idol show except for the "live battles".

It's because it's a popular trend like how there are a lot of harem shows.

Those 6 anime episodes could be good, they are full length instead of shorts so it's more of a "televised" OVA, the rest you'll want to skip.

Well, IMO, harem shows and idol shows are different. Harem is more of a sub-genre to me while idol is a main genre. In an idol show, the series revolves around girls who want to be idols, and the plot focuses on their music, singing, performances, etc. In a harem show, the harem elements are essentially tacked on above their main genre like slice of life, fantasy, demons, etc. A harem show can't ever be a show by itself and needs another genre to perform with while an idol genre can stand alone, an exception to this can include Kanon's arc from TWGOK. So, although harem shows appear often, it is because they come with some other genre which the show is covering, while with an idol show, when the content becomes greatly used, attracts less of audience. I'm not saying idol shows aren't popular right now, but it has become very uninteresting for myself personally.

How do you conclude that a harem can't be a show by itself? Excluding it often falling under the romcom genre, why do you say that?

Less like a genre, harem is more like an element of an anime. What is Infinite Stratos? Science Fiction. What is Nisekoi? Romantic Comedy. What is Bladedance of Elementalers? Fantasy. You see what I'm talking about? The harem set is like something tacked to the original project. This is only my personal opinions though.
