Ughhhh too much Frozen I'm really sick and tired of hearing that song. In Japan I heard it at least once a day if not more. Nice to see where other songs rank though.

What's with Frozen and this site? Isn't ANN about japanese animation, aka anime?
Do you treat it as a great victory of America? WTF. |

Tetra: They're reporting on trends which are big in Japan. And that sucker's a monster there. Hopefully, its 15 minutes will be over soon, 'cus we're sick and tired of it, so...

Yes, and Frozen is only the biggest thing ever in animation in Japan. We'd be remiss if we weren't reporting it.
Not at all surprised that "Cruel Angel's Thesis" still held in at #2 even after all these years. NGE just won't go away. Last edited by Key on Mon Jan 12, 2015 8:43 am; edited 2 times in total |

Shouldn't Kōji Wada 和田光司 be credited as the artist for Butter-Fly?

I'm not tired of it. And honestly knowing of its popularity atm in Japan keeps you less surprised about when fandoms cross-over. This isn't the first American movie that had a fandom in Japan. And anime is infused with Disney animation fandom already. For some reason, it seems that a lot of people who watch Japanese anime also watch American animation. And truly, if you have an issue with hearing about Frozen, why are you clicking on on a news post that clearly is going to talk about it? Edit: OH! and I forgot to mention, if you're a gaming fan and play Kingdom Hearts (waiting for KH3) you may as well prepare yourself for the inevitability that is Frozen.. which then will become part of a manga series, likely (if you're not a gamer) and toys... It's not going to go away and will forever be tied to anime in that way. |

Well, I'm not surprised Frozen would topped the list, the franchise was a sensation around the world. Congrats to Frozen and congrats to Evangelion for being #2.
Uh, ANN has reported on non-anime and non-Japanese stuff like this one, this one, and oh yeah this one. (you see what these 3 links have in common? spoiler[Answer: not related to Japan or anime at all except Uncharted]) |

In addition to what others have said, I will point out that this article is not about Frozen. It is about karaoke songs from anime*. "Frozen" is in the title because the first song, and 30% of the total songs, is from Frozen. The article would still exist, just with a different title, if Frozen was not there. *In Japan all animation is "anime," so this list from a Japanese source does not make a distinction between Frozen and what we western fans consider to be anime. |

I just watched the 65th Kohaku uta Gassen. They did 3 Frozen songs, Let it go in JP and English, and First Time In Forever. it's that big. Next to Yokai Watch.

Heeeeey, this means if I ever get a chance to sing Karaoke in Japan I could choose a song I could sing without mumbling in horrible Japanese all the way through!

I think "Cruel Angel's Thesis" has staying power not just because the popularity of the Evangelion series, but because, honestly, it's a very singable, fairly easy-to-follow song with a good beat and melody. And even people who don't speak Japanese can follow pretty easily with romanized lyrics. Or, at least I can. For a while I had the whole thing memorized.
