Also of note is that it's basically more successful theatrically here than the Madoka movies. I bet that wouldn't even come close to happening in Japan, though.

None of this is profit when the movie has still cost Ghibli a lot of money, even when you total the international sum.

walw: True, but if the WOM is strong enough, then they might just be able to recoup their budget through international home vid sales.

I couldn't wait for them to give us a showing in Pennsylvania, so I finally broke down and imported it. My first imported Bluray, I feel so accomplished! But god knows we were never going to get another showing anywhere near where I live anyway, and I just had to see this movie. Can't wait till it arrives in the mail.
@GATSU, I don't know, 25 million is a lot to make up for. I'll happily support the film with my purchase (I might even double dip with the US Bluray release) but I'm only one person. It's a real shame that unique and creative films such as this always seem to go unnoticed to the general public. All of the critics seem to love it.
