It's been so many years since I last watched Power Rangers, SPD was the one airing at the time. But seeing this made me realize just how much I miss it. I might watch this episode just for the hell of it.

The finale aired months ago in other countries already and it seems most people were disappointed due to Saban's budget cuting and shortcuts used.

and from the looks of things they didn't get JYB to reprise the role as the black ranger which makes me wonder what saban could have done or offered to make rocky to come back for the new dino thunder series.

This is considered new news? It's months old!
The full list of returning actors (and who they're portraying) are as follows:
MMPR
Jason David Frank > Tommy Oliver > MMPR Green Ranger, MMPR White Ranger
In Space
Patricia Ja Lee > Cassie Chan > Pink Space Ranger
Selwyn Ward > T.J. Johnson > Blue Space Ranger
Lost Galaxy
Melody Perkins > Karone > Pink Galaxy Ranger (II)
Reggie Rolle > Damon Henderson > Green Galaxy Ranger
Danny Slavin > Leo Corbett > Red Galaxy Ranger
Lightspeed Rescue
Sean CW Johnson > Carter Grayson > Red Lightspeed Ranger
Alison MacInnis > Dana Mitchell > Pink Lightspeed Ranger
Time Force
Jason Faunt > Wesley Collins > Red Time Force Ranger
Samurai
Hector David, Jr > Mike > Green Samurai Ranger*
Brittany Pirtle > Emily > Yellow Samurai Ranger
*Not to be confused with Cam's Green Samurai Ranger from Ninja Storm.
A lot was talked about, way back when this info was leaked/revealed, because a number of actors reportedly received invitations that were later rescinded, or were invited, but told that they had to pay their own airfare to New Zealand. Some even reported that they were asked to perform for little or no pay.

And in the end, they did the right thing not showing up for this because from what was reported about the finale's airing in France, the cameos were a joke just like this whole season has been.

Won't matter anyway. Long as they have all the Ranger suits, kids won't care less if actors from the course of 20 years could not make an appearance or declined. Just us nerds and nerd-ets....

Let's get a few actors back so that a few of them can say one line and have a 2 minutes fight to celebrate the 20th anniversary! YAY!

Reading some of the former's actors responses to the generic letter they got were pretty hilarious, though. Not surprised at all how many turned it down.

I don't think anyone expected Gokaiger quality from Super Megaforce, but they literally didn't even try. I'm not a fan of Power Rangers, I find it pretty obsolete since Super Sentai is readily available for everyone thanks to the internet, but this was a chance for Saban to show their love for the American version. What they did instead was throw in tons of hand-wavey explanations on stuff like why Gosei Black becomes Gokai Green, why there's Pre-Zyuranger suits and teams, why Gosei Knight has to leave, why Gokai Silver has to leave in the end despite not having anywhere to go, and other plotholes and weak writing. It got to the point even some of the actors were making fun of the show's writing. That's a pretty bad sign.
I think someone did some cataloging and decided that Pre-Zyu teams got just as much time as teams who actually had Power Rangers adaptions. If Saban was serious about this "Power Rangers loveletter" they would remove all the Pre-Zyu segments and refilm them with Zyuranger and beyond suits. As it turns out just leaving in all the Goranger to Jetman stuff shows laziness on their part and how disrespectful they are to their own history and lore.

Man, the 10th Anniversary special Forever Red was much better than that and showed there's at least some effort.

I'm new to tokusatsu and halfway through Gokaiger (my first Sentai series ever) and I was kind of wondering how in the world they were adapting this to the American version, what with all the cameos and such. I stumbled across an episode of MegaForce a few weeks back, flipping through the channels when Gokai Red caught my eye and I got kind of excited because I never see anything I'm currently watching on regular old TV anymore. So I watched a little of the episode but was disappointed they didn't seem to be Space Pirates, nor did there seem to be a equally-fabulous American version of Captain Marvelous and/or Basco. I knew Power Rangers involved a lot of refilming but I didn't realized they actually changed the plot so much too.

I first read this as "Power Rangers Aluminum" and thought Saban had finally hit rock bottom with their series names.

MegaForce might have been the worst first one to check out because outside the initial Power Ranger show they started to adopt the Japanese style of standalone series rather than replacing actors in the same story and setting. For watever reason they decided to fuse Goseiger and Gokaiger together for Megaforce and Super Megaforce. Before then, it usually had a 1:1 adaption. Shinkenger became Samurai, Go-Onger became RPM, Magiranger became Mystic Force, etc etc.
Otherwise, yeaaaah, they don't ever really acknowledge or explain why their new powers are pirate-themed or why the keys exist in the first place. However, they do loosely use a lot of plots from Gokaiger episodes, only altered. For example, they had a body-swap episode, but rather than Don and Luka switch bodies, they had two of the guys switch bodies; presumably to avoid the obvious sexual jokes that would arise like in Gokaiger when Luka started charging Doc and Gai money every time they groped her body.
Rumor is they might fuse Gobusters into Kyoryuger for Dino Charge.. if so, we might be seeing a return of fusing series together like the original Power Rangers were.
PS: Gokaiger's a great sentai to start with. They do a good job introducing people to the older series through the episodes so you don't need any prior knowledge. If you see a sentai team you want to see more of you can go back and watch that series.

Funny you should mention that-- I already have Goseiger ready to go ever since watching the Gokaiger x Goseiger movie a few weeks back. Between Gokaiger & Kamen Rider OOO though (which I'm also about halfway through), not to mention "normal" J-dramas I'm following, it'll probably be a few months before I get around to it.

I don't really have a problem with this. "Power Rangers" is a fun show to watch regardless. Don't be so serious all the time, guys. Just sit back and let the incredible goofiness just wash over you.
