I was wondering, in a lot of anime series there are times when a girl punch's a guy for various resins and he goes flying into outer space, into a wall, into other people, etc... Does this show that girls can punch a guy without any consequences, for instance she punch's the guy and the guy goes flying then comes back but isn’t mad at all and is in fact more humbled by this experience then before. Also how did this come to be, I mean how did the whole premise of a girl hitting a guy really hard come from. Is it based on a model of a matriarchal society or something else. Please tell me what you think.
[EDIT: Fixed the grammar in your title. -TK] |

"punch's"? What exactly does this punch own? Now, I have seen various anime where a girl punches a guy...the most notable one in recent times would be Love Hina, but I'm guessing that the tradition goes back at least to the Ranma days. I wouldn't read too much into it--it's just a comedic device to show a kind of "divine punishment" for guys that do bad things, or things that the girl perceives to be bad. It's definitely not an indicator of a matriarchal society, I can say that much.
(I'd certainly watch some anime where a girl comes in contact with a lot of guys and gets "punished" for her transgressions, but it would feel wrong somehow.) |

There are various reasons why a girl may be presented hitting a guy in a series but from my experiences from living in Japan I have NEVER seen that happen, if that's what you're trying to get at. In anime, one, the guy went into the girls dressing room and was caught, therefore warranted the title 'perv' before getting sent off into OS. Two, the guy might have said something that may have made the girl shy, but she doesn't want to admit it so she denies it while in the process hitting the guy. Three, the guy is down about something therefore she hits him to snap him out of it (painfully).

Or in the case of Sosuke Sagara...breathing. Four: Using military weapons, skills and tactics when they aren't necessary. |

I dunno. I guess it's like the Japanese version of our "drop an anvil on the persons head" from Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry and stuff.

Several anime has some sort of "girl hits a guy" moments.... The only one I can think of (besides those already mentioned) is Full Metal Panic! Though. And he doesn't go into outer space, he just gets...really beat up. |

Off the top of my head: Fushigi Yugi - Miaka punches Tamahome several times and Nuriko punches out Tasuki several times for snide remarks about Nuriko's love for Hotohori. Ceres - Aya nails Yuhi several times. Fruits Basket - Kagura's demonstrations of love for Kyo. Fullmetal Alchemist - Ed and Al are tossed all over the place by their Teacher, Izumi. And if I remember correctly, Riza Hawkeye thunked Roy Mustang once or twice. Inu Yasha - Dear Pervy Miroku and poor, harassed Sango. That's all I can think of right now but it's usually happens to a guy that a girl likes in some sort of fashion in romance/comedy animes. |

And if I remember correctly, Winry also brains Ed with a wrench at least once, which was actually a bit disturbing. Basically, blind assassin has the basic idea as far as I know. It's all no deeper than the Looney Tunes slapstick, everyone will have their own opinion about whether it's actually funny or not, and I wouldn't read much into it. |

You mean real life isn't like that?? Damn, no wonder I can never get a date.
Seriously though, I agree it's just a joke to get laughs. It reminds me of kids who pick on their crushes, you know?? |

Yes, adorable moments. And what is even funnier is the fact that the girl seems to be stronger than the guy. On the other hand, I would never try to do that. I'm afraid that in real life the repercutions wouldn't be just the guy getting angry and leave or smile and get back or trying to calm down the angry lady. He may return the favour. |

Anf of course, the classic Akane Punches Ranma sessions... Although Pigtail Boy isn't the only one that's been sent into space (Mousse-kun too, and of course, that baka, Tatewaki)

of course then, you get the ones when the guy may slap/punch back...
I forget which one it was...I think Kimi ga nozomu eien, where the girl slapped the guy, and he slapped her right back...she dropped to her knees and totally lost it...it was one of those "dayum" moments. also, in Hana Yori Dango, girl got slapped plenty of times in that -_- |
