Just curious. Does anyone know if Season 1 of yu-gi-oh will be released in the states? I know it started with season 2 in the states, but the graphic novels start with season 1. It's pretty interesting; would be fun to see.

Maybe a DVD release, but I'm doubtful we'll see it on TV for a while seeing as how there isn't much marketing potential beyond the manga wich would be pointles since it's already out. Perhaps after the first season, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

YAY A CHANCE TO RANT ABOUT 4KIDS!!!!!

Pokemon is a drama in Japan.... I don't know why, It just is.... and why don't I know why? 4KIDS DUBBED IT!!!!

From the manga I surmise Yu Gi Oh is coller and more adult oriented than I thought.... Why did I think it was a crappy kiddie show? 4KIDS DUBBED IT!!!!

Shaman King was a really cool series in japan.... It will suck here.... Why? 4KIDS IS DUBBING IT!!!!!!

The only fate worse than 4 kids is Saban (if you believe the internet snuff film of Sailor Moon)

Luppy, I read your post and remember this same fear for Shaman Kings was expressed in a question to Answerman!

I'm not much for the card craze yu-gi-oh, but the manga that the first season was made of is really really good. I love it.

"Pokemon is a drama in Japan.... I don't know why, It just is"

Actually, Pokemon is a kid's show meant to sell toys in Japan, just like it is here. It is not a drama.

Eh, even the Japanese version of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime strays from the manga's story. After the first 27 episodes which you're referring to as the first season, it's all about the card game. -_- I guess they realized you'll make more money off a show about a card game than following the manga's plot. Oh well... As long as I've got the manga... =)

I think I'll just quote Bamboo from this week's Shelf Life:

Quote:
Earlier this week, I received an angry e-mail from a friend, ranting about a website that had a collection of YuGiOh reviews. I clicked on the link, curious to see what he found so frothing about the site, and within a few seconds of skimming, it immediately hit me. The site was filled with hardcore YuGiOh fans screaming and raving about how they hated that people thought it was a kids’ show. Spitting vitriol at all the fans who claimed such, they insisted that because the show was violent and moody, saying that it was aimed towards kids was a disgrace to the series. Not satisfied with this assessment, they began to slowly tear apart the American companies that were responsible for the TV and home releases, slamming on them for “murdering,” “bastardizing,” “butchering,” and “degrading” the series. They seethed about the American release, saying that they knew it would be crap before it was even aired because it was being done by a company called 4Kids, rather than a company called 4YoungAdults. At this point, I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. Folks, folks, I respect your anger and resentment, but can we not all just sit down and talk about things? First off, I’m sorry to tell you this, but YuGiOh is, and will always be, a kids’ show, that's how it was marketed in Japan. Just because it has themes like death and abandonment doesn’t mean that it’s not a kids’ show. Yes, teenagers and even adults can enjoy it too, but they’re simply not the target audience. Just accept the fact that you like a kids’ show. It’s okay. A lot of people do. And hey, 5 second edits won’t ruin your life. Just be glad you can see it.

In short, you overzealous Yu-Gi-Oh fans nead to pull your heads from your asses and realize what fools you make yourselves look. This also applies to the equally-idiotic Pokémon fans. They're equally overzealous. I like both series too, but even I realize they're both just damned kids' shows and don't interpret it any more than it should be.

[edit]And why do we have two topics on this? Either close this one or the other one. Or better yet, close both. They're just degenerating into rants on why 4Kids sucks.

And is it me or are "monkeyDluffy4" and "LuppyLuptonium" the same person?

actually the yugioh anime does follow the manga. it goes into all the stories the anime does like duelist kingdom and battle city although it does that later in the manga. since the manga is not even a year old yet they still haven't finished the first season from japan. although what they are currently showing in japan doesn't follow the manga the anime did until just recently Very Happy
