Really, is anyone surprised? Nintendo has a track record for being mostly family-friendly, so something to make sure kids don't wind up on porn sites was only inevitable.

The N3DS reveal should be studied in university level business classes, this is one of the worst gaming industry related business disasters in decades.

Could have sworn Microsoft pulled that one off already with poor early promotion and several moments of backpedalling with Xbox One with regards to significant console unit sales lag compared to PS4.
and lets net even get started with the Ouyo... (or however you spell it)
And of course there is the case of Sony messing up in there department with YEARS of lackluster sales with PSP/Vita.
(the main point being announcing a console Hardware update for there portable system is not even a miss step for Ninendo)

This gen has been filled to the brim with business and developmental disasters. Microsoft's DRM crap was the worst business and marketing disaster since the Atari days with Pac Man and ET.

Ahaha nope. Not paying to visit sites I want on a device I paid money for. That's absolutely laughable.

It should be the other way around. Concerned parents should pay the extra money to have the content filter installed. This better not be the same with the North American versions.

Parents are too stupid/lazy to do that, you know this. Better to have it on by default than make the parents be responsible and enable it. After SwapNote fiasco, I'm not surprised.
Doesn't affect me since I don't browse the internet on my games consoles. Is it really that big a deal, though? Seems like those who would resort to terrible browsers on game consoles are kids who are trying to sneak behind their parents. And grandstanding about 30 cents is kinda petty.

It requires a credit card, I don't like using a credit card for verification for gaming services on consoles, I never trusted the security for any of them. Besides, I couldn't use one if I imported a N3DS since it doesn't accept foreign credit cards.

sounds like another reason to make money to me. You can do this without steal millions of people out of 50 cents. I open an account in other firm. they deposited 17 cents and 15 cents into my bank account. I have to enter the amount that correctly within 7 days. After i enter the right amounts, the cancel the deposit.
if 10 million people pay 50 cents, that's 5millions dollars.

Seems like a good way to kill sales in Japan for people under 20.
It's not the money of course, it's the intentional hassle to protect users from themselves and to track people. Now with a registered ID connected to each device, it would kill second hand sales too.

It will be the same. Nintendo is going to make consumers give them the C.

Now I'm curious about the filter. For the Japanese version, are they going to block the many anime blogs? What about Amazon JP? What about amiami.jp?
For the US, I assume it'll be more strict. Are they going to block any site that shows a female nipple? What about twitter or tumblr?
