This is looking better and better, and is really starting to look quite different from anything we've seen from Ghibli before. Very happy that I'll be able to see this in only two weeks.

WOW! This movie looks SO good! A British dub would definitely be fitting considering the story's origin, like with what they with Arrietty. Although I doubt that GKIDS will get this one. If history is anything to go by, it seems that they always distribute the more "niche" titles, like Poppy Hill and Princess Kaguya, both deeply steeped in Japanese culture. The Wind Rises is the exception though, and I assume that's mainly because it had the whole "Miyazaki's final masterpiece" status going on with it. No, I'm almost positive Disney will get this one. It fits their requirements anyway. Again, it reminds me of Arrietty in that way. Same director of course. And let me tell you, I'm really proud of Yonebayashi's work for the studio. A while back I was worried about Ghibli's future directors and if they would be up to snuff, but he's really proven himself capable of making beautiful films, just like Hayao before him. What I respect about him is that he has his own voice. He is able to make beautiful anime without ripping off Miyazaki's style, and yet simultaneously retaining that signature Ghibli charm. And despite all of his hardships, even Goro is starting to show potential. Poppy Hill showed a lot of growth directing wise, and I'd be really glad if he kept that up. So I guess you could say I'm pretty excited for Ghibli's future, and I still have Kaguya to look forward to on top of all that. Also there's Miyazaki's samurai manga, which I would love to read when it's finished. And it would be even cooler if it were actually adapted into an anime film one day.

Jay: Ghibli's future is only secure if Yonebayashi, and not Goro, is picked to take over the company.

I swear your rage-boner for Goro must be 5-feet tall, Gatsu.

No.
And besides, even if all his work is shit then half of the films are still going to be good. And neither Takahata or Miyazaki ever took full control of the company, so what makes you think these two staffers will have to? Not only that, but I'm sure there will be more novice directors to come as well.

koinosuke: I have an aversion to spoiled whiny bitches.
Jay: You mean yes. Unlike Goro, Yonebayashi loves animation, has actual trained experience in it, and his films can reach a broad audience in both countries.

Miyazaki has a controlling interest in Ghibli, and that's all that matters. And the only way to preserve Ghibli's legacy is to pass that interest onto Yonebayashi.

Maybe, but if I have to concede one negative about him, Miyazaki the elder is a bit of a control freak. And he missed the boat by taking on Howl, instead of letting Hosoda have it. Furthermore, while he may no longer be in the position to tackle anime films hands-on, he could still have the final say on who's attached to them. So I hope he's more flexible in giving the new blood a chance.

That's quite the poetic image, like a sunflower that burns easily, or a dog allergic to itself.
Anyway, the trailers did a good job representing the film. I didn't really get an accurate sense of Anna's personality from it - she turned out a more troubled and interesting character than I'd expected - though that makes sense as it focuses almost entirely on her relationship with Marnie.
