I'm sure it'll be just as amazing and existing-in-this-world as Michael Bay's Evangelion, James Cameron's Gunnm, and whatever other director ever made an offhand comment about a desire to make an adaption of an anime or manga.

Sounds pretty cool! I want to see his Monster adaption first. Why didn't anyone ask about that on reddit?

That's kind of ironic, since Japanese commenters were comparing the suits in Pacific Rim to Gantz.

I've been saying for years it would be cool to see an American live action adaption of Gantz. Looks like it might come true.

Del toro o me is either hit or miss. I,m on the fence about Pacific Rim still. I really enjoyed the Gantz manga. I have only got the first 12 volumes at the moment thought. I enjoyed the last 3 story archs I read. The guy shooting everyone in the streets, the alien attaking the school, and the dinosaurs. I also like the characters introduced at this time better than the ones at the beginning. I have not seen all the live-action movies yet. The Monster anime was good but I have not read any of the manga. All that being said I do not think Monster is a good fit for Del toro as a director. I can see him doing Gantz more than Monster.

Bad news, brahs. American remakes of anime never turn out good. Companies should just stick to their own stuff.

Give it an R rating and I'm sold, Del Toro's a fine enough director, far better than Van Sant doing Death Note.

Toro is actually a good director, though. Not one of those blockbuster jerkoffs.

Um how many Hollywood movie remakes of anime have there been?
Here's a list of actual American Adaptations:
The Guyver 1/2. Dragon Ball Evo. Fist of the North Star. Speed Racer.
Two of those are low budget productions. With the Guyver actually being pretty solid.
Dragon Ball Evo is terrible. Speed Racer is the only one with actual money and talent behind it. It is also visually respectful to it's anime roots.
I'm not sure how this is enough to say American Remakes of anime are always bad. There's been very little and some of them are actually arguably good.
Anyway. Gantz has a cool premise and I'm sure Del Taro would be great at getting the dark and crazy version of Gantz that the Japanese LA version missed. Doubtful this would ever happen though.

Rahxephon: I think a live-action R-rated Gantz has a better chance than a live-action R-Rated Mountains of Madness.
