Love Live! has gotta be the best selling TV anime ever on Blu Ray by now, right? I mean don't remember a lot of anime that had sold 97,000+ BD after just two weeks...

And in other news, No Game, No Life is a more explainable success. Good characters, beautiful design, has a story...

Did MCA come with an event ticket or something? I didn't think it was popular enough to move 9k discs.
I'm just waiting for NGNL second season announcement now. Last edited by traveling on Tue Jul 01, 2014 11:00 am; edited 1 time in total |

Log Horizon is to popular then, good sales for Knights of Sidonia makes me happy though.

Ontop of a event ticket. But it completely destroyed its stalker estimate(especially on DVD). But since it'll drop, its still rather low for huge popularity it has. But its still doing good. |

6k really isn't enough for a second season announcement for sure - Hataraku Maou-sama sold more than that and there still hasn't been one. Don't worry, that studio made Super Sonico in the meantime -.- Still you never know - there could be one. |

Saying Mekaku is half price is not correct either. Yes, it is cheaper than most Anime BD but all Mekaku BDs only contain one episode!
The series which is 12 episodes long has 12 BD volumes. All come with a bonus CD with songs and cost the same. I don't expect a huge drop. |

It's nice to see No Game, No Life with solid sales numbers. Hopefully we'll be seeing a season 2 soon.
So Love Live! will most likely break 100k. I wonder if volumes 2-6 can even get half of that (7 will be able to match it or come close since it probably also have an event ticket). I'm somewhat surprised MCA got 9k for its first volume. I wonder how it will hold out since they really are going with one episode per volume. |

It sold over 8.5k in the first week(9.3k in the next few weeks). You really need to re-check your numbers. And that other anime aired only a year ago, Japanese tv does not work in the same way Western tv works.
v2-12 do not have event tickets, only v1 does. It will drop, just check stalker. |

if 2-3k = popular then almost every anime is popular. |

You mean a 3.9k average? Its above the median average of Autumn 2013. |

I'm looking at the article now and it says 6.7? Unless you have other numbers I'm going to stick to my original point. Also I can't even remember how many Hataraku sold - just seem to remember it sold around8 8-9k, which is more than the 6.7k I see here. Regardless - my original point, that anime that sell quite well won't necessarily get a s2 - is still valid. |

I think only Gundam SEED Destiny and Evangelion hit that number, but they didn't do so in their first week and Evangelion was so long ago it was a completely incomparable market. HOWEVER, it's important to remember that when people compare sales, they do so by averages, because shows drop over time, and some shows have very skewed first volume sales. Love Live's first volume had an event ticket and there will most likely be a very large drop in volume 2. It will surely continue to be a very good seller, but don't expect volume to hit 90k.
Shows with NGNL's sales numbers are inconsistent in whether they get sequels or not. However, it's worth noting that NGNL also got a massive boost in novel sales, though it's impossible to say how that affects s2 possibilities. I'd say NGNL has a good chance though.
You have to add in DVD sales, this thread/article is only BDs. With DVDs, it sold about 8.4k. |

You forgot to include the DVDs, which is a pretty damn big deal when its more than 10% of its sales.
Everybody knows that, but you're using an anime that aired only 1 year ago. Come back in 2 years. Not that you can't use sales to determine the probability of a 2nd season. High sales increase them, but low sales do not decrease the chances. And anything over 10k has a really big chance at a 2nd season. While I don't know what the probability is for the series which average 8k(which NGNL has a decent chance at), its probably rather high(50%+, or i'll be surprised). Not to mention it got the biggest anime LN boost to date. It something i'll need to research, maybe even make a list to determine the chances of other anime(6k...7k...9k.. etc.). I'm obviosly not going to include orginal or those that lack source materiaal/the source materiaal is on haitus/ended blabla |
