Numbered accounts are created for people who create an account with Facebook or Twitter login, but don't set a username. Nico87 obviously made a new account and associated it with either his FB or Twitter account.

You can associate an existing account with the FB/Twitter logins... he just didn't do it right.

I thought we were forcing them to chose a username and agree to the forum TOS before posting. Will bring this particular issue to Dan's attention.

If you already have an ANN account and you want to use the FB/Twitter login option, you need to go to your account settings and associate your account with FB/Twitter; that way it will log you into the correct account.

Otherwise, when you use the FB login you get either
a) "Your Facebook account “XYZ” has been linked with the existing ANN account “XYZ” (due to same email address) [undo]"
b) "Welcome to ANN. Your Facebook account “XYZ” has been linked with a new ANN account (username “XYZ”) [undo]"

Since Twitter doesn't provide an email address, you get
a) "Welcome to ANN. Your Twitter account “XYZ” has been linked with a new ANN account (username “XYZ”) [undo]"

In every case, there's an undo link in case you wanted to log in to an existing ANN account, not create a new one.

When an account is auto-created, we try to use the FB/Twitter nickname or name as ANN username, but if both are already taken then it's just a number. When posting in the forum with such a username you get a message saying you should choose a proper username first, but I don't see a point in forcing that on everyone.

After some recent complaints from multiple users about "Sega good, Sony bad" soapboxing, you've been placed on Moderated status, which means anything you post, now, has to be approved by a moderator before it can show up on the forums.
