Really don't see the problem. Ghostwriting has been around forever.

No one was supposed to know the truth, that is why its called ghostwriting.

I don't know what to think about the whole ghostwriting music thing, but as for the "fake deaf" issue, I feel compelled to come to his defense. What most people don't realize is that there are degrees of disability. One can be disabled but depending on the legal criteria used, one can still be considered not disabled.

I have personel experience with this. My husband is visually impaired, has heart problems, severe scoliosis, mobility issues, and also recently suffered significant hearing loss. In other words, he is OBVIOUSLY DISABLED. You can tell by looking at him. But according to Social Security, he can only be considered disabled because of his visual impairment. Seriously.

This guy while not stone deaf, apparently, still has some impairment. So, he's not exactly lying about that.

The guy was taking advantage of the real author and purporting something that he's not (completely deaf) in order to enhance his standing as a modern-day Beethoven.

Japan has had these hoax issues before. Just recently, there's the controversy with that S.T.A.P. article on Nature publication. And of course, the great Japanese Paleolithic Hoax that consisted of spectacular paleolithic finds in Japan by amateur archaeologist Fujimura Shinichi over the course of two decades but later became one of the biggest scandals in archaeological circles after it's all discovered to have been faked.

I seriously think people are making a fuss over nothing. As rinmackie says there are degrees. The vast majority of people who are legally blind can still actually see, just as those legally deaf can still hear. Did you ever wonder why the person with a white cane can often seem to navigate reasonably, that is because most people who use a white cane can still see to some degree.

The problem is in fact exactly as Samuragochi himself describes, he may have indeed recovered to be able to understand some conversation. In a quiet environment with others speaking clearly many deaf people can understand, or indeed lip read. There are so many factors coming to play here, the only person who knows the entire truth is Samuragochi himself. A single persons statement from someone who poorly understands the disabled is hardly gospel for medical council. Just as people reacting negatively to this is simply gross.

Or at least the being deaf part. Using that in combination to advertise and sell ghostwritten material is a bit crass though.

If the real author was paid to BE a ghostwriter, then there was no taking advantage of, unless he wasn't paid as per their contract. Ghostwriters do not get credit for their work.

A statement released by Samuragochi "claimed he provided the broader ideas for the works, while the collaborator had produced the finished scores," CNN wrote. "The collaborator had his own reasons for not identifying himself as a creator of the work, read the statement, so Samuragochi presented the work as a solo creation." Niigaki became uncomfortable with the deception and told Samuragochi he wanted to stop. Samuragochi reportedly told Niigaki that he "would commit suicide if he stopped composing for him."

Ah, so not a real contract there it sounds like. Still some fishy stuff there on both partners.

Well, the Australian news ABC explain more about it. I believe the previous ANN article cited the Australian news as another sources.
