Fixed the medal typo. However, figure skating is the sport. Free skate was the event: http://sports.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/02/14/live-coverage-mens-free-skating/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

Oh god, I can't wait for the bishonen skating anime to appear.

(I'm not being sarcastic.)

As for Ayatsuji Yukito's proposed project, well, we learned from "Blades of Glory" that ice skates can be a deadly weapon.

When I was watching the free skate with my mother, we both commented that his costume looked like something Johnny Weir (a past USA skater) would wear only to find out today that Weir actually designed it. Laughing I wouldn't see an anime or something like it with him as a character.

He looks about as much like Shinji as he does any other lanky anime character with short dark hair (of which there are hundreds). Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I'd love to see a newer figure skating anime! But I'd much prefer it be a girl positive (but non-moe) one than one along the lines of the boy themed sports anime we usually see. Figure skating has always been my favorite sport, but shows starring majority male casts don't really appeal to me most of the time.

Eh.... I think Dessa's right. Men's figure skating is composed of the short program (where you have to preform specific moves) and the free skating program (where you get to do any moves you want, but there are rules on how points can be awarded for varying moves).

The Spanish skater was my favorite anyway. Razz

EDIT: As a matter of fact, the article you linked to has corrected their mistake and the headline now reads "figure skating."

Wow, Shocked you're like the complete opposite from me, anime-cast-of-characters-wise. I generally can't stand any anime with a majority female cast. Mad Not because they are females per say, but because how anime (and most other genres for that matter) tends to portray said females... Rolling Eyes (BTW This really helps in whittling down my choices in what anime to watch Wink )

Anyway, I'd like to officially register as the fourth vote for a bishounen figure skating anime. Like I said, if it's chicks skating, it's a no go for me. Mr. Green

Yes clearly we need more shows about men. And more sports anime! 90% of sports anime feature predominantly male casts. Girls should get the spotlight sometimes.

Anyway I did say I wanted the show to not be one that relies a lot on moe tropes. There are (many!) good anime out there that feature women in the predominant roles and portray them in a positive and feminist light. It seems a bit misogynistic to deliberately avoid media starring women, no matter what excuses are given.

ANN was wrong either way. you can't win gold in "Free Skating". He won the Men's singles(Short program and Free skating). ANN moderators always shit on us for making errors. They shouldn't allow to make any mistake unless they stop picking on forum users.

Free skate is not an Olympics event. it was a program. Figure Skating Men's singles was an event that has Free program and Short program. You can only win medals on events.

I know ANN is not ESPN, however they shouldn't report sports event if they know nothing about it. We know most American anime fans don't like sports and sports anime

IF the are going to make an anime, it should be based on Ayumu Hirano, the snowboarder. He is more hype.

The Free Skate was kinda anticlimactic. All the leaders had at least a couple botches, so no truly Olympic memorable programs (y'know, the equivalent of clean skate 6.0s back in the old scoring system).

Hey, if Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano could do it: Laughing

(Incidentally, Brian Boitano is openly gay and one of the head delegation the US sent to Russia for the Sochi Olympics.)

It'd have to be based in the West though since there's not enough good snowboarding exposure in Japan. Even Ayumu's mentor previously advised him to move to the US where he now trains with the best.

It really was, especially compared to the quality of performances in Skate America last year...

Another ice skating anime would be pretty cool though. There's one for a shoujo manga that isn't bad but it's short.

This is cool. I may have to look this up. I want to see this guy in action. I really enjoy figure skating. But to be immortalized by big names now that is something.
