Hi all.
Didn't find a thread to highlight the upcoming Winter 2014 (which will actually be Summer for us Southern Hemisphere folks) anime season, so I made my own. Here's a link to one of the better charts I could find: LINK --> http://anichart.net/winter <-- LINK So folks, what interests you? Anything catch your eye? ---------- I'll probably check out most stuff, but here's a rough list: The multi-cour stuff I'm currently watching (naturally). Pupa: Aww jeez, they've got it under "Shorts". I really hope it is more than just five minutes long. Haven't had a decent horror show in awhile and Pupa looks dark and foreboding enough to be the sort of thing I'm looking for. The Mushi-shi special Hihamukage: Could be interesting. I didn't realise the manga was still ongoing, as this apparently hour-long special adapts a couple of upcoming chapters. Television series was repetitive, but the special should avoid that problem. Natsume Yuujinchou: Itsuka Yuki no Hi ni: More Natsume and Nyanko-sensei; do I need more of a reason than that? Hell no. Pity it's just an O.V.A.. Still, for me this is one of the most anticipated anime of the season. Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil: Finally, a magic-themed series about lawyers. Just what we always wanted. But seriously, this one actually intrigues me. It has a fresh premise and the trailer looked epic. Looking forward to this one more than most. Tiger & Bunny Movie 2: The Rising: The first movie was alright despite being inferior to the T.V. series, and I'm hoping that the second movie will be a bit better. It should be, given that we've gotten the character introductions out of the way and can tackle the meat of the story. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! 2: I'm a bit puzzled where they'll go from the ending to season one but I'll definitely check it out at least. Hopefully it can recapture the fun and zaniness of the first half of season one. Silver Spoon 2: The first season was quite strong, even if the dialogue and Hachiken's moping did get irritating at times. But he did grow as a character and it will be interesting to see what he does from here on out. Seitokai Yakuindomo 2: Yes, the wait is over. After I think eight reasonably funny O.V.A.s we get a proper second season. The repetitive humour has been going slowly downhill - I no longer find this as fresh and as funny as I once did - but I'm still amped nevertheless. I'm rooting for Tsuda x Suzu, since she's the only one who isn't batcrap insane. Hamatora: The picture makes it come across as trying a little too hard to be cool, and the trailer is worse. But it could always defy my expectations so I'll give it a go. Don't really like the character designs though. Mikakunin de Shinkoukei: I'm curious about the twist. Usually the girl arrives unnanounced on the doorstep, declares she is here for some marriage pact and tries to move in with the guy. But this time the guy is the one doing that; it's kinda unusual when you think about it. Whether the show itself will offer anything more remains to be seen. Hoozuki no Reitetsu: The description and picture make it look very eccentric. I like these sorts of shows since variety is the spice of life and it's nice to have something a bit low-key yet wacky to even out all the action-y shows. Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.: Uh, well, I'm mostly enjoying Gingatsune, and this seems to be a fairly cute show in the same vein. Nobunaga the Fool and Nobunagun: Two Nobunaga shows in the same season? And surprise surprise, in one of them Nobunaga possesses a girl's, (she isn't Nobunaga herself, thank god...). You know, I thought we were over the whole Nobunaga craze but it's clear to see that it was biding its time. I'll be checking these out strictly for the lulz. Oneechan ga Kita: Speaking of the lulz, oh my god this is going to be terrible. That much is obvious. A seventeen-year-old wife hitting on her thirteen-year-old stepson? And her two friends are a sadist and a big-breasted foreigner? Normally I'd run for the hills, but this looks like it will be so awful as to be entertaining. Tonari no Seki-kun: Seems really weird and you have to wonder if the story can be sustained for an entire cour. Still, the premise is different and if it the writing is good then the show has more potential than one might think. |

Will Definitely Watch
Silver Spoon s2: Loved the first season, looking forward to more. Hopefully we'll see some more of Hachiken's strained relationship with his parents, since that was hinted at at the end of the first season. Mushishi OVA: Mushishi is one of my favorite manga and anime (it's not ongoing; this will be based off a special--maybe if it's successful??), so of course I'll watch anything related to it. I had been hoping for a second season, but this is pretty great news as well. Hopefully the shorter length will beget some impressive animation. Natsume OVA: Didn't know this was happening, but I'll watch anything Natsume-related. Space Dandy: Well, I'm sure I'll watch it on American TV, but I will, of course, be watching it xD Hoozuki no Reitetsu: The trailer looks interesting and I like the style. Curious to see more from Studio WIT; hopefully this looks a bit less inconsistent than AoT. Nisekoi: I keep hearing good things about the manga from people I trust but haven't gotten around to reading any of it. This'll be my chance to check it out. Noragami: Obligated to watch anything by Studio BONES. Will Give the Old College Try Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha: A girl named Fushimi Inari who lives near the Fushimi Inari Shrine? So is she a personification of the shrine or is it just a really bad pun? Anyway, seems sweet enough, but it'll have to do better than Gingitsune, which turned out to be a bit too trifling for my taste. Sakura Trick: Actual yuri is rare; hopefully that's what this is. Seems sweet. Pupa: I'm worried that it's marked under "shorts." I was hoping this would be a full series. Oh well, we'll see. Apart from these, there are a lot of two-cour series I'll most likely be continuing from this season: Kill la Kill, Magi s2, Nagi no Asukara, Strike the Blood, and, of course, Yowamushi Pedal. Might watch the HxH movie as well. That's not really a series I follow anymore, but I still like it--every once in a while I get in the mood to read a few chapters or watch an episode or two. |

Definite watches include Silver Spoon 2nd Season, Nisekoi and Space Dandy. Nisekoi has been my favorite manga for some time, and I'm excited to see the anime, though SHAFT's involvement has my expectations a bit...tempered (Also for some reason that chart used fanart for its entry?). I also love Silver Spoon and I'm looking forward to having it back every week.
Wizard Barristers and Nobunaga the Fool look like some good ol' dumb fun, and Noragami strikes me as potentially interesting along with Hoozuki no Reitetsu. I'm willing to give Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha and Z/x IGNITION a chance. Other than that, this looks like a pretty light season for originals, for me at least. Which is fine since I'll already have 4-5 shows from this season to keep up with. Also that Saikin, Imouto no Yousu blah blah blah looks like pure poison. |

Shouldn't Samurai Flemenco be on the Fall Leftovers list?

You mean pure bliss ![]() I also like the Nisekoi manga a lot. Even though it is your typical harem and filled with cliches, I still enjoy it. I was surprised to find out that Shaft was making this. All of the Shaft anime I have watched seems to be heavy focused on the character's eyes. I wonder how they are going to implement that in a romcom harem like Nisekoi. |

Well, it is true that too much hotness can negatively impact one's health. So other than that one, it's really just Nisekoi and Seitokai Yakuindomo for me. |

Let's see... I've already read some of the Sakura Trick manga and like it already, so it's a virtual certainty I'm going to follow the anime as well and, having loved the first season and its OVA, I'm also definitely going after Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! 2(c'mon Shinka x Sanae!). The PV for Pupa caught my eye, so I anticipate watching it, but depending on how the content works out I might well have drop it(a cast-iron stomache I have not).
I definitely intend on giving Tonari no Seki-kun, SoniAni and Wake Up, Girls! a try. The first looks like it'll be a nice way to while away some time; admittedly, I'm interested in the last one mostly because I happened to like Love Live! - even as I tell myself not to let the latter set the bar. As for SoniAni, I guess I just want to see what they do with it; sure, it'll certainly be loaded with pointless fanservice, but as long as there's something else to it I might just watch it. Some of the others look like they might be interesting, but I'll wait until the preview guide for them. |

The one that looks the most interesting is Nobunaga the Fool. It seems like a very unique idea. Doesn't really explain itself much, but since it seems novel, it would be hard to explain, which is why I'm so interested.
There's a bunch of other stuff I plan to watch, but I think I'll write about that later. Last edited by Galap on Tue Nov 26, 2013 2:28 am; edited 1 time in total |

Too much stuff. Gee, Winter shouldn't be such a busy season. BTW, I'm not counting movies and OVAs since those I'll watch whenever the shady people with the eyepatch make them available to me.
Definite watches: Silver Spoon 2: Because I loved the first season, it doesn't really need much more explanation Hozuki no Reitetsu: Just my kind of story, and the character designs look amazing. There are not enough anime about Japanese folkloric characters. I'm very interested in what Studio WIT will be doing now that they filled their pockets with AoT money Nobunaga the Fool: Anything that has Nobunaga's name on it (or any other Sengoku general, for that matter) is already sold for me. (OK, minus Sengoku Collection, that was utter trash). Also, the voice cast is stellar and I'm guiltily crazy for anime with bastardized history. I wasn't aware this one was coming out this season, when did they announce that? Noragami: It's BONES. Did I mention how I like mythology (any mythology) in my anime? Because I do. This tale about gods and what not is right there for me Nobunagun: [See Nobunaga the Fool] Space Dandy: Just recently watched both Kids on the Slope and Cowboy Bebop and loved'em both. While I'm not entirely sold on it, esp. given the amount of "LOL boobs" in the trailers, the alien cat is adorable, and again, it's BONES, so I'm definitely checking it out. Will give it a try : Witch Craft Works: I'm at least mildly interested in the witchcraft part and a strong girl being the protector, but if it turns out too harem-y, I'm out. Pupa: The premise is a little disturbing, but I want to see where it aims at. I'm not too sold on it after watching the PV with the chewing sounds, but I'll still give it a try. Inari Konkon Koi Iroha: I like stories about shrines, although I admit Gingitsune is turning a bit way too sugary for me. If I don't end burnt up from that one and the first few episodes for this prove interesting enough, I'll stick with it. Sekai Seifuku: I won't deny the concept sounds fun and exciting and the character designs and colors are vibrant and cool. So far as it doesn't become a boob show, I'll probably keep watching it To Aru Hikuushi e no Koiuta: The premise sounds incredibly simple and unambitious, imo, but so far as the fantasy world is interesting, I think I can stick with it if other shows I try out don't turn out as great Of course, I'll still be watching Kill la Kill, Nagi no Asukara, KuroBas, Magi and Yowapeda (and SamuMenco, if it continues over the winter) plus Saint Seiya Omega and my heroic attempt to catch up with Space Brothers (currently on ep. 13), so my plate's gonna be insanely full. I'll have to be especially picky this season and leave everything else for later, I just can't handle so much. BTW, have we oficially given up on Sailor Moon? It's almost freaking December and we don't have so much as a Key Visual or even a confirmation of what kind of story it's going to be |

On TV shows, I tend to wait for time to weed things out.
On the other hand, lots of movies are coming out that interest me! Tiger & Bunny movie, I've yet to finish the series, but I already want to watch this! Don't worry, I'll finish the series first Bodacious Space Pirates movie-I just got the series from DVDPlanet, but did watch the first 3 or 4 eps when it was airing (then I got distracted, like I always do since I tend to marathon things). Assuming I like the series, this looks promising too Buddha movie 2-I need to see movie 1, but have read the manga. It is, of course, a damn good manga As for things I'll keep an eye on, Mahou Sensou is fantasy action magic, my sort of thing, see if it turns out well. How are there two Oba Nobunaga series? I'm really confused. I might keep an eye out on those. Space Dandy is clearly the must though, even I'll probably blindly jump in there, especially with the simulcast. But yeah, a lot of moe and slice of life looking stuff, not my thing. I still need to watch Pokemon Origins too actually (I see XY on that list, but don't care, I'll stick with the games) |

Hmm it seems like really good season, well here I go.
Stuff I will watch: Silver Spoon 2:I saw the first season and despite moments of pure boredom,I thought it was fine so I will watch the new season. Hoozuki no Reitetsu:This has really good director working on it,plus the source material is gold,so yes I will definitely see this. Nobunaga the Fool:There is character named Jeanne Kaguya d'Arc in a Nobunaga show and all of that is followed by gigantic robots.Did I mention forget to mention how Shoji Kawamori will writing this thing?Yes,this will be awesome. Noragami:Kotaro Tamura, the fellow directing this show is obviously very talented, manga is decent, this is BONES so animation will be great and Taku Iwasaki is composing music, sounds like a pretty fun combination. Space Dandy:This has some biggest names in not just anime but animation industry working on it,my God this show is almost guaranteed to be the greatest thing ever. Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta:This is a prequel to a good movie and it was written by the same author which is more than enough for me. Maybe: Nobunagun:This can end up being fu##ing stupid and awesome,or just plain stupid. We will see. Sekai Seifuku:Hey I love Tensai Okamura, but I am afraid that if I watch this show ,I will get arrested by FBI. Wizard Barristers:I like Yasuomi Umetsus style, but his stories have tendency to become really stupid without him ever realizing that fact. EDIT:Oh yeah I forgot,I will watch Mushishi specialbecause seriously Mushishi is my favorite anime and this is just more of it,so I dont have much to complain about. |

Alright, let's round up the prospects.
High Chance of Success: Space Dandy- I'd probably be more excited about something that wasn't a comedy. But then again, Watanabe actually does have a really strong sense of humor even if it has been less than center stage in the past. And Keiko Nobumoto is involved. That's a big plus. And its Bones. They do work that is at minimum consistently decent. Medium Chance of Success: Wizard Barristers - This is the best possible premise. Will they totally fudge it up in practice? Eh...maybe. But maybe not. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of the director but he's at least somebody. And I liked a lot of what I was in the trailer. The action bits with the cop were good. The ditzy girl who is apparently the MC does not bode well though. Noragami - It's Bones. And there's nothing about this sending up any red flags. So that's something. To Aru Hikuushi e no Koiuta - If this is well executed it could be a solid show. Low Chance of Success: Pupa - I was initially quite optimistic about this. It sounds like a pretty cool premise. But with the delay, and now its downgrading to a short I have very low expectations at this point. And the trailer looked painfully otakucentric. And "dark twist" otakuish is actually worse than regular otakuish in my experience. Nobunagun - Apparently Nobunaga is this season's random theme. Nice art style. Not really gettingmy hopes up on that alone though. Nobunaga the Fool - Seriously..."The Western Planet and the Eastern Planet." I'm not the only one who sees the problem with this statement right? But anyway, could be interesting. Hope we're not in for a bunch of crappy CG mechs though. Sekai Seifuku - Again kind of a nice art style. Nothing else to go on. |

Lets take a look.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! 2: Hell yes, I am hoping this will be as good as the first. Gin no Saji 2nd Season: This farm school anime grew onto me and I feel like I learned quite a bit, something good to watch. Go! Go! 575: A vague description, but highschool girls. Mahou Sensou: I like the look of the character designs. Mikakunin de Shinkoukei: So a girl has a guy show up? There seems to be multiple girls and quoting itself as hilarious, I don't know. Nisekoi: SHAFT is involved, that is enough to get attention, and some of you seem to be talking highly of it. Oneechan ga Kita: An Onee anime, I wonder how it will be better than Kiss x Sis. Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.: A long title, but also an Imouto anime, I don't hate those sort of trashy anime. Saki: Zenkoku-hen: Been waiting for this for a while now, I watched the entire side A just for the characters from this. Sakura Trick: Yay yuri! One of my favourite romance anime was a yuri, so I am looking forward to this. Seitokai Yakuindomo Season 2: I really enjoyed the first season and OVAs, so this will definetly be something I will watch. Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil: I like the look of this too, seems interesting. |

Space Dandy. Been looking forward to this since the first announcement. Watanabe knows how to let his pictures speak for themselves like very few others do. This is going to be nice, no question about it.
The Mushishi OVA. I've only watched the series recently, but I thought it was wonderful. Good timing, thank you, dear creators. Nobunaga the Fool. I only checked out the detailed info because, well, giant mecha with a sword in the poster. (I'm a simple minded person.) I didn't have to read past the first two names on the casting list to know I am going to check this out. Inari Konkon Koi Iroha. The plot doesn't sound all too interesting so far, but I will have a look anyway, because it's set in Kyoto, which I can't get enough off. And there's Kill la Kill and Samurai Flamenco to continue, of course. |
