18.000$? Didn't they say the second set would be cheaper? Well.. it's 1.000$ cheaper, but...

I guess the cheaper part is that you can double down by buying the older sets, if you missed 'em.

Hopefully AnimeSols doesn't stretch its supporters too thin. It would definitely not be a good thing if Mami or Black Jack's second sets don't reach their goal. Dear Brother's first set is looking good at least.

Mami and Yumi are the ones which have the least time to be fulfilled. So any of the fans of both series should pay up, if they haven't already. Especially since I want to finish Mami to the end, and not have it canceled like Yatterman. Crying or Very sad

Yeah, it is competing against Yumi for the "old magical girl anime" slot, and it only has two months to do it, less time the first set.

I'm surprised they're crowdfunding the 2nd set . . . I kind of assumed they'd be adding more based on how well the first one sold. Makes a little more sense to me.

Hmm, I pretty much said as much when Set 1 succeeded, but now it is becoming much more apparent. It was ridiculous they were only funding the first set, since it made the future of the show that much more uncertain, making people willing to fund, less likely to fund. Now before those people who actaully did even have the first set in hand, they are asking for the same amount again, for another small snip of episodes.

It seemed likely when Set 1 succeeded that it was due to a couple of very generous people that really wanted the show. I hope those people realise they have to be just as generous if not more so another two times. Rolling Eyes I imagine the fourth, final set, will be much more easily funded as people will then be more confident of actually receiving the show.

It seems AnimeSols really knows how to stretch their fans thin. Particularly as they now have the audacity to cite "need the revenue flow". How is that going to inspire consumer confidence when you stated you were asking for all the money you needed to produce the sets last time?

I think AnimeSols has a lot going for it, they really need to up-their-game though. Particularly fix up licensing. International licensing for some of these titles would hardly be as complicated as newer ones. And if they work with a partner like RightStuf or someone else experienced in worldwide shipping like some Kickstarters have done, that takes any problems there from their hands.

Unfortunately, everything you said here is either incorrect or just not knowing how Anime Sols is working.

In regards to licensing, Sam Pinansky has stated numerous times on this forum as well as many podcast interviews that Anime Sols is not licensing anything. Thy are working with the Japanese companies directly, so what they are funding is royalty fees that still need to get paid to the director & series composer (as well as any other companies/committees that were involved), subtitling costs, & general site maintenance, not to mention the actual costs of DVD production. Essentially, for the first time we fans are actually getting some idea of how much money goes into getting an anime out on DVD, and many fans' reactions are essentially "That's too much to ask for!". I guess maybe some things are better left unknown for some people...

"International licensing for some of these titles would hardly be as complicated as newer ones." Yeah, tell that to Shawne Kleckner, head of Right Stuf, who has mentioned before how long & tedious it was to get all of the international licensing issues squared away for titles like Dirty Pair TV, The Rose of Versailles, & Utena, all of which required years (literally years) to get everything given the "OK" just so that TRSI could get those shows out. According to you Shawne was doing everything wrong, I guess. Also, the reason why the funding is restricted to the US & Canada comes down to one word: Logistics.

Sam already has mentioned how there are limits to how long they can put a potential credit card charge on hold, and it's amazing enough that they're trying out half a year with Hurricane Polymar. Also, that very "international licensing" is what makes it hard (if not impossible) for Anime Sols to make the backing available to the world. You see, the US & Canada are open for licensing any of the shows that Anime Sols is streaming, but in Europe a company might still have the license to one or more of those shows. Sure, Anime Sols could, theoretically, only offer the shows that they have the worldwide rights to at the moment, but then you'll be hearing nothing but people shouting "Why isn't [Anime A] available in my country, but [Anime B] is? Why does that country get it but not me?" Also, cherry picking the available titles for every single country in a continent like Europe would just be insanity for Sam. In the end it was simply easier & safer to focus the backing on just the US & Canada. I am pretty sure that Sam has mentioned that if the site succeeds well enough they'll look into stretching out to other territories, though.

As for international shipping, you do know that Right Stuf is indeed helping Anime Sols out with that, right? When the first Black Jack & Creamy Mami sets are ready to be shipped (Sam is hoping for sometimes in November), Right Stuf will be the ones shipping those DVD sets out to the backers, not to mention will be the store where people can buy the remaining stock (which should be slightly shy of 800 sets for each show, since slightly over 200 people backed these releases & Anime Sols is printing up 1000). Are you an international buyer? Well you can buy the sets when Right Stuf gets them!

I agree that Anime Sols isn't exactly perfect and is still has a lot of "potential" to work up to, but to say that they are not trying as hard as they can is pretty silly.

I wish we could have reviews of a finished product before pledging more money. I want to know how these sets are going to turn out. So far I'm in for Dear Brother. I might've gone in for more (like Pastel Yumi) if these were spread out more, but with a new company I'm not going to front load a whole bunch until we see some product and quality levels.

I still think they're putting too much up at once. People's wallets are getting spread too thin and they're starting to prioritize. I think there will be projects that might've gotten funded if they came out later.

I'm afraid they're falling into the same mistake they made the first time around. Once again, there are too many sets with unreachable goals and a very short time to complete them all. It was evident from the first round of sets that there were only a handful of people supporting these releases and again they're spreading their limited supporters into too many options, which will probably end with very few of these sets reaching their goals

I like having Mami and Yumi at the same time, the quicker I can get them on my shelf the better. But I will admit that I've been holding back a little so that I can give as much as I can afford to both shows (oh, and Dear Brother)
I gave a little more to Yumi, because of Pierrot's 4 she's the least popular.. (usually)

I'm just glad they didn't do Pelsia and Mami at the same time Anime hyper two 52 ep. series at once is a little intense

I wonder how much it would cost to just do a single DVD of Fashion Lala.... it's never even been on DVD in Japan, so doing the transfer could get pricey?

Crystal: Sols crowd-funds future sets based on whether it meets its goal on the prior sets.

partially: If people are willing to blow over half a million bucks for a sequel to a magical girl short, they can cough up extra change for 13-episode DVD boxes.

Unfortunately, it is complicated. That's why they're where they're at. Same bs as record companies. The owners want to give buyers hell for media which is decades old, even if the audience is practically non-existent now.

Actually, Right Stuf is delivering their items.

When it comes down to it, it's not really any different from what fans would have to pay individually here to justify continuing a show on DVD/BD. For example, Glass Mask.

You kind of wonder if that's not what they should've done with Gatchaman. As for Polymar, maybe they're hoping enough people check out that OAV from Discotek by then.

Again, you can retroactively pay for the first sets, if you buy into the second ones.

Actually, with a few exceptions, there's a lot more time since then. And if the titles in question were on Kickstarter, you'd only have a month for any of them.

That really depends. There are thousands of people watching these shows fansubbed and legally on Youtube. It's just a matter of reaching out to them for their support.

This very article mentions the Mami set has a month less and almost the same goal than the previous. And I'm pretty sure that, with one exception, all of these have had a 3 month time, exactly the same as the previous batch did

I don't doubt this, but the problem is that the site is still not really well known out there, so they should try to secure a few titles (Mami and Black Jack, maybe Dear Brother which seems to be doing fine) instead of having such a wide range and spreading their already very limited funders

I'd feel a lot more comfortable committing to set #2 if the first set was an already shipping product.

Crowlia: No, some of them have a 4-6 month goal.

I'm guessing they're hoping to build a bigger audience through diverse content.
