Mandarake Questions

I recently discovered the Mandarake online auctions. I knew of them having storefronts but not the online stuff. I had a broad and then a specific question about it.

First, has anyone here every used Mandarake online auctions and can speak to ease of access, charging your card, shipment, and those sorts of things?

Second, there are a few items listed on there as "(Some Series) Setting." What are settings for anime exactly? Also, is there something special about the settings they would be selling there? Are they like, the originals or something as opposed to some kind of scan you'd see in an art book?

I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer.

The auctions are mostly for old collectible stuff
like books, photos and anime cels or rubber ultramans
did you look through the auctions?
you are not going to find any new figures or such at low prices.

you need to make an account and when u log in there is a "I won" item page and a payment page. I'm sure they can take paypal.

Setting sketches (or settei) are model sheets showing the design of the various characters, interiors and objects of a particular anime. They serve as a guideline for the animators, to make sure that the correct overall appearance is maintained. Each member of the animation staff usually gets a set of settei copies for reference.

Most sets of settei sold on Mandarake and elsewhere are copies , though some of these may have been used by animation staff. I've seen some original handdrawn settei sold on Mandarake occasionally, and have myself purchased a few that were used for the Kurogane Communication anime series. In general, you should always assume that any settei sets being sold on Mandarake are copies, unless the auction description specifically says "handwritten setting". The same applies to storyboards. Cels and genga however should normally be originals, unless specified otherwise.
