Wow, those are quite some large figures for a "niche market."
Jeez, over 400 million. Where can I get myself a piece of that pie? Eh? I mean, this is chump change compared to the billions that Hollywood films have already made this year, but I'd wager to reckon that anime is pumping out more business than most other niche entertainment markets.

apparently i can't multiply right.
43 * 100,000,000 = 4,300,000,000 ... not 430,000,000
as such, some of those numbers are off by roughly a factor of 10.
this is thanks to a little numerical system called the Chinese (or "Devil's", as I've lately been calling it) numerical system, where they have a kanji for "10,000" and "100,000,000".
you'll often see things written like: 43 (100 million) 5400 (ten-thousand) which would be 4,300,000,000 + 54,000,000, or 4,354,000,000 total.
that's what I did here.
I got the 10,000s right, but I mis-multiplied the hundred-millions.
thus, the actual market value is $4.something billion.
a corrected form of the article will be posted later tonight.
