On Saturday, I read in the Anime On DVD forums that Production IG had sold the broadcast rights to FLCL, but since the deal hadn't been finalized the channel wasn't named. There was immediate speculation as to who was going to air it, with Cartoon Network and TechTV being the biggest candidates (since both stations blatantly said at one time or another that they loved the series).

Then, last night on Adult Swim, they aired an interstitial that mentioned they had recently picked up a new anime series that was only six episodes long. So Cartoon Network will air FLCL on Adult Swim, and according to P.I.G it will be sometime in the fall. How they plan on airing it (weekdays or just on Sundays) is yet to be known.

Awesome!! It's a great, great, (weird) show. I'm surprised it found a home on US television, but it's thrilling to know that it actually did. What a fantastic acquisition. ^_^

No, it said that the six episode series was cool like Big O. Big O has 26 episodes.

Here's the transcript from last night:

Quote:
A new anime is coming your way

It's only six episodes long.

But it's shockingly great.

Like Bebop

Big O

and Beef Logs

[adult swim]

I see...sorry my mistake. I thought it meant big O 2, but that probably has 26 eps also.

Well, the phrase "Big O 2" actually refers to the second season of Big O. As a whole, Big O has 26 episodes from both the first and second season, each season with 13 episodes.

FLCL on Cartoon Network.....

Quick! Get Satan on the line. I've got to sell him a Zamboni!

If it is happening, then praise be. But, jeez, that's completely out of left field, isn't it? Though their programming guy did say it was one of his favorite series in that interview with NewtypeUSA.

why is it such a shock that it would be on cartoon network? i mean it's got a huge fanbase, and it's not exactly questionable.

TechTV didn't air it. They simply reviewed it.

However, I am sure they were trying to get the broadcast rights to it. CN just beat them to it (or just paid more money). Here are a couple of posts from a moderator of TechTV's Anime Unleashed messageboards :

Quote:
Sadly, it won't be TechTV that's going on air FLCL...

Quote:
Curses and alack, FLCL will be broadcast in the US, but not by TechTV.

I can't say more than that right now (I'm sure details will be released sometime soon from the people who got the license.)

Oh, calm down. I just bought the two DVDs in April and next month, the last one (and a box) comes out. No need to get all worked up. It'll soon be over.
