Just picked it up today, and as usual, Oda never fails to disappoint. spoiler[Luffy has finally reached the tower where Robin and Frankie are being held, and Frankie manages to get himself free to get Robin to the window so she can talk to Luffy. But she tells Luffy that she wants to die. And what worse timing than for the crew of CP9 to turn up. But Spandam is trying to savor the moment in letting Robin "ridicule" Luffy but Luffy is obviously ignorant to what he just heard, "What crap are you saying Robin?" The rest of the Straw Hats come up, and Luffy asks Robin, is this what you really want? And now we go to what we've all been waiting for, the past of Nico Robin. Since Robin ate the fruit as a young girl, she was treated like crap by the other kids and parents were always blaming her if Robin taught them a lesson. The only people friendly towards her were the researchers of the "text". It has also been discovered that she was doing a little researching on her own in their library so her knowledge of the text is as much as theirs. One day while walking the beach she discovers Saulo, a giant washed up on the beach. After days of talking and finding Robin's ability to smile, Saulo makes the unfortunate discovery of finding that he washed up on Ohara, which was targetted for the Buster Call. He explains that he helped Robin's mom, Olvia escape from the Marines, and that she should be coming back to the island. The then CP9 comes to the comes (Spandine being the leader) and starts investigating the researchers facility for the text. Robin has also come back after trying to find her mom, who ran out to try annd kill Spandine but was unsuccessful. Government agents find the text, and Spandine with an evil smile on his face tells that all researchers are to be executed and then issues the Buster Call. In the confusion of the cannon fire from the ships and the government agents evacuation and villagers evacuation of the island, Nico finds Olvia, and the two are reunited in a disaster that looks like no happy ending. But then Saulo comes back and Olvia has him take Nico (much to Nico's objections) and get her off the island. In comes Kuzan (Aokiji), who is ready to deal with them, but in the distance they see that the ship that had all the village evacuees on is blasted from the face of the water by Sakazuki (Akainu), who is willing to take no chances in the fact that there could have been stowaway researchers on the boat (even Kuzan is surprised). Saulo gets really mad but is stopped by Kuzan, being frozen while smiling, but Kuzan decides to let Nico live and provides her a means of escape. He tells her not to do anything stupid, as he would be one of the first to come after her. We discover that Robin did not live in happy times after that, as people were pretending to be nice to her and then be influenced by the power of money. Now back to the present. Spandam's yelling in Robin's face telling her how worthless she is and then he's bragging about the World Government and their symbol, their flag. Then Luffy realizes what must be done, and he tells Sogeking to burn the flag, which he wastes no time in doing. When Spandam tells them he's just declared war on the world, Luffy yells "BRING IT ON!!" and asks Robin what he asked earlier, and she says she wants to live. The bridge drops, all are getting ready, and even Lutch has a smile on his face. But Frankie brings up one last the thing, the plans to the Pluton weapon, he decides to make a bet, if CP9 wins, Robin will be theirs, but if the Straw Hats win, they get nothing.]I left out some important details here and there, but I'm sure this is a pretty good summary of the book. The climax is coming, and the possibly one of the biggest battles in One Piece history is sure to happen. If I were to give a rating to this book, on a scale of 1-10, it would be a big fat 10, because this is part of a spectacular story, with very touching and emotional sequences. I hope the post wasn't too long

I agree, another badass volume from what has definitely become my favorite arc now. This flasback made it into my top 3 alongside Chopper's flashback and the Skypiea flashback.
Awesome things in this volume: spoiler[Aokiji with the hippie look, and Sengoku sporting the 'fro. Sogeking with his new weapon and him shooting down the marine flag, definitely a huge turning point in the One Piece manga. Robin shouting "Take me with you to the blue seas!" One of my favorite OP quotes now. Lucchi's twisted grin as the drawbridge slowly lowers. The introduction of Akainu.] Overall a badass volume. |

Definetly Skypiea was great spoiler[when Karugara told Nolan that he would be waiting, and then the sad fact that the geyser thing happened and they were never able to meet again.] That was very touching, I got bumps.
spoiler[When Luffy told Sogeking to blow the flag, and his answer] just made me smile, because they are definetly going to war. spoiler[Luffy's not afraid, but Lutch smiling ]made the elements even better

loving the 390 — 400+ storylines too
Robin's story is quite awesome and when they scream allegiance to luffy, it's even better! |
