why is this rated mature? i just finished watching the whole show, and while being a bit sappy, i didn't see anything i'd really consider over the top.

Its true there was no direct nudity, but it was full of highly and obviously suggestive material.

Then again so is Sailor Moon, DBZ, any anime where a guy or girl does a transformation and appear without visible clothing on.
Its called American standards ;P Next step in ratings is a big square with a 'M' will appear on your sexual organs when you undress so to protect the general public ;P This is a joke here |

And let's face it. What Hideki actually has to do to activiate Chi can be called a mature object. Then there's the whole strip club thing and the constant refernces to Hideki's magazines and his "genki"(sp?) that Chi is almost always pointing out. I personally liked the series, but can also see why it has a Mature rating.

No no no don't get me wrong.
I agree the mature rating is proper. I'm just saying hearing everyone say how sexual it is is just well childish. Its no more adult than the anime I referenced in my first post. 
Anyways I think its cuter to activate down their then on a foot |

There is adult subject matter but I think it deals with it in a good way. I still laugh whenever I think of the panty episode... "Hideki Hentai!, Hideki Hentai!!" And yes the activation switch is kinda suggestive |

I'm still waiting to see the anime - need to get more money
 - but I have been buying the manga since it first hit the shelfs, and Toykopop gave it a OT (Older Teen 16+), which I think is a fair rating for it. I don't think that it rates a mature - that just conjures up images of some chessy hentai

 Yeah, I know that was a typo, but the first thing that popped into my head was a chess knight prancing around a board with one of those bras with the stripper tassles, with a pawn waving a handful of ones.
But to make this post on topic... er... well, yeah, I don't think Chobits should've gotten a mature rating. Mostly likely a 14+, but that's about it. Mature to me either reeks of blood and guts and/or people visibly having intercourse. But I guess the nudity tipped them off, even if it only happens in rare snatches. |

Everyone agrees (including me), Chobits doesn't deserve to be rated "Mature". So I've changed it to Teenager.

I saw Chobits and tought same. Why is it rated M ? Well, the whole series is lil bit perverted but otherwise no direct XXX or anything like it. There is even no kissing between Hideki and Chi, so who knows

I've only seen the first manga of Chobits, and definitely think the rating is right. I don't know about the anime, but the manda did show the "chest area" or Chi.
