Spirits Within: rated Older Children
Advent Children: also rated Older Children Why are they rated Older Children instead of Teenager? I mean, aren't most Final Fantasy games T-rated? |

It depends on the content. Let's review what it says:
Older Children (May contain mild bad language, bloodless violence) Teenagers (May contain bloody violence, bad language, nudity) I've not seen either movie, but what I usually do is if there is a specific scene from the film I can think of that disproves the first rating, I click on the error report button on the bottom of the entry and tell the Encyclopedia staff why it should be bumped up. Usually, I'll give an example of a scene and tell them how it coincides more with the latter rating I'm suggesting and hope they will listen. For instance, Ninja Ryukenden used to be rated Older Children. But when I actually saw it, some people had their heads cut off, which certainly doesn't fit under the label of "bloodless violence." I explained this calmy and logically, and now it's rated Mature for the "extreme graphic violence" part I mentioned. From now on, if you have a problem with the info in the entries, please use the error report button (at least for age ratings) and remember to provide substantial evidence to back up your case. EDIT: Fixed a typo. Last edited by Tony K. on Wed Mar 22, 2006 10:43 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks, Tony K. I take your advice. Besides, think of Spirits Within and Advent Children being rated PG-13. |

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is PG-13, but that doesn't mean it's entirely for Teenagers. Yes, there's some strong language and it's a bit violent, but having seen the movie, I can say it's too tame to warrant a TA rating. Therefore, it's OC.

Funny. I just found out FF7:AC was rated "G for General" in Taiwan.

Dude, Taiwan is so lenient when it comes to age ratings for anime and manga. Didn't they give Princess Mononoke and Shadow Star Narutaru a G rating as well? |

Not lenient, but stupid. Princess Mononoke was due to "Oh it's Miyazaki's; must be like Totoro or something." Shadow Star Narutaru was due to its translated title (星星公主, "Starry Princess"; "Star" might refers to Hoshimaru, I guess), an evidence that those Committee members judge book by the cover. On the other hand, many "teen" books have been labeled as "R for restricted"; notice, however, rated "R" in Taiwan is quite different from a Hollywood movie with the same rating: 1. The age threshold is 18, not 17. 2. Being labeled as "R" means the material is ABSOLUTELY NOT for those under 18. Any form of distribution to those under 18, with or without supervision of adults, is against the CRIMINAL law and can be prosecuted. Thus this "R" is more like "X" in US. Many famous and popular titles have been labeled as such: Battle Royale manga has been under constant criticism and banned. The entire Kosaku Shima series, SaiKano vol. 6 & 7, Those Who Hunter Elves, Mahoromatic, Tenjho Tenge, Ikki Tousen, GANTZ, Tsukihime (manga), Silent Mobius, Escaflowne (manga), X, Eden's Bowy, Crying Freeman, etc., etc. A complete list can be found at Free Speech Online - Anti-Censorship Coalition. |
