While I was a bit dissapointed at the unresolved plot threads, I felt that the series wrapped up pretty nicely otherwise. Some people may hope for a second season, but I think what we have is good enough.
I just wish ADV had acquired the rights to the OVA episode (episode 10.5) and included it on this volume.
For the unresolved plot threads, there's always the manga. However, I hear that things go quite differently in the manga.

Y'know I had forgotten how short this series was. But again it will have your stomach doing flip flops. I do want to own this series.
And the music does grab you at the most dramatic times.
And of course a very passionate love scene. Well, to me anyway. When 'Lucy/Nyuu' finally confesses all to 'Kohta'. For all that happened and yet forgiveness.
A scene that truly grabbed me.
But I agree that they should have tried to grab ep. 10.5 and toss it in there. It's the length of full episode but it sheds a little extra light on 'Lucy/Nyuu'. But it's very despressing all the same.

As nice as it would be to see more of the story, I don't think a sequel could be done without spoiling what we have here. Kurama's death with his daughter and Lucy's confession to Kohta were such excellent climatic moments that the ending felt right as it was.

In theroy a good idea. In reality I think animating the rest of the manga could kill the glory of the series.

Maybe they could make one more episode to wrap everything up. I thought the bonus episode would do that, but it turned out to be something that took place earlier in the series (or, as someone else here called it, episode 10.5).

They couldn't wrap it up in one episode, the manga has 26 episodes worth of materal left. The Anime only goes through 1/3 of the manga.

Lucy is awesome and they should go on with the series. I am not really a fan of the "less than 26" episode series' anyway. As great as This was, it wass too short. Hopefully their will be more.!

Meh. Kouta had no spine, Lucy did way too much worse things to him that he should NOT be able to just brush it off because of some "confession".
I think the director had the best story, very dramatic in the end with Nana and number 35.
Animation wise Elfen Lied was pretty weak, other than the violent bits, characters scuffled around, running animation was crap, backgrounds weren't crisp. Gotta hand to the consistent character design though.

Ah, why is it that most of the greatest series are only 13 eps long? Two of the best releases of 2005 are Gunslinger Girl and, of course, Elfen Lied. Both are only 13 eps. One of the most impressive aspects of Elfen Lied is how it caused me to really care for a cold-blooded killer. Only in anime!
Contrary to what most people say, I really liked the ending. It's fun, sometimes, to decide for yourself how things end, or who is a silhoette (sp?) behind a door. I really hope that the OVA makes it stateside. Great review,Key!

I totally agree with the review as well but some of those unanswered questions are bugging the hell out of me. Why did the boss dude have horns? I hope for atleast another season but then again I'm scared it will be rushed and turn me away from reading the manga.

I am very happy the way this series ended. I personally don't think that they need to continue it at all. With what it is I consoder it one of my favorite animes out there. If anything maybe just do a sequel movie instead of another thirteen episodes.

A movie would not work, their is still 2/3 of the manga left. The only chance for a sequal to complete the story would be to anamate the rest of the manga.
IMO though it would be a bad Idea, for the Anime ended very well.

This is one of my favorite series, I enjoyed every part of it, and thought the ending was very appropriate. I don't know if a sequel would be that good of an idea, and I wish ADV had licensed the OVA, but those are minor complaints. This was a great series to watch.

I gotta agree here somewhat... except for your comment on the Backgrounds, which I thought were excellent in detail... felt like pastels or something, but then loaded with detail
The animation reminds me of HENTAI for some reason... well, ARMS does make that kind of stuff... so...
ANYWAY
I was pretty satisfied with everything as well (story and ending-wise).... It was cool, I like how Kanbe directed everything
He was a good choice, even though his track record doesn't seem like it's suited for the job
The last images in particular were excellent, good touch
