The manga section has a topic going about manga series you stopped purchasing so I decided to ask the relatively same question on the anime section.

What anime series did you start purchasing but later gave up on and what were your reasons for doing so.

For me some where;

Heat Guy J - I thought it was a really good series but J's CG turned me away I didn't like how he was animated. As cool as they tried to make it seem i still felt like it was trying too hard to be cool, I hated how their motorcycle looked, and that was not cool. The DVDs were also difficult to come across by around my area if not I probably would have finished up but I quit after volume 2.

X-TV Series - Unlike most people I liked the movie mainly because when I saw this movie I was a huge fan of violence and didn't care much for character development. The TV series felt like the opposite to me so after volume three I got tired of the story and Episode 0 [zero] pretty much gave everything away anyway so I felt like "whats the point?".

Samurai Champloo - Don't get me wrong I love this series. The action, the drama, the hip-hop but when I found out Adult Swim was gonna air it. I kept my money in my wallet and have been watching it on TV. I could care less if they "scratch" out the word shit in every episode.

GITS SAC - Same reason as Samurai Champloo. Thank You [as].

Burn Up: Excess - For some reason I liked the animation and story telling on Burn Up W so I decided to give this one a try and got slapped in the face. The animation was ok but I felt like the story moved a lot slower and maybe Burn Up W was more enjoyable because I only payed $13 for it when it became a part of the Essential Anime Collection.

I'm pretty sure there are more but I'll post them as I remember.

Never gave up on any series, even if there were something coming on TV on anime (which is fairly unlikely), I hate watching anime on my Television rather than my computer anyway.

Raimuiro Senkitan - Ugh, terrible. I gave it a shot, because some people rated it decent, but it was horribly put together and there were a million tiny changes that could be made that were obvious and yet the animators did not appear to see. Had pretty good potential but utterly failed.

Rah Xephon - Drama drama awesome drama drama OH MY GOD THE ENEMY IS HERE GET TO YOUR GIANT ROBOT THING HOLY CRAP YOU WON WOW WOW drama drama drama. If they had just gotten rid of half the mecha stuff it would have been a great anime, but randomly cutting into the drama so much pissed me off to the extent that I called it quits by episode 10.

Um, I'm assuming you get DVDs and not fansubs, right?

What if an anime premiered on TV before going to DVD?

all the shows on adult swim.

i loved the shows there, but since i'm still a highschooler with other priorities, i try to record them ,but then i end up not having time to watch them ... and also what bugs me is when they change the schedule and i end up recording the wrong thing.. *sigh*

i think i'll jsut watch the dvds, less stress on me..

InuYasha- the repetative story-line drove me mad. The only reason I watched it up to the third season was because of the characters. Other than that, I think it was pretty snore-worthy. I used to be obsessed with it, but then I just gave up.

Other than that, though, I'm pretty consistant with the anime I buy.

I started watching Gundam SEED out of morbid curiosity.

Got fed up with the lack of pace + rehashed storylines by about Phase #15 so I just switched to the trilogy of compilation Movies.

I tried some of GSD and I found it to be too boring. The fighting I'll admit were amasing but the lack of interesting characters and the most confusing storyline put me off completely. Not to mention Kira of whom I dispise most of all anime characters.

I think it's a given that everyone gives up on Pokemon at some point.

Heat Guy J - i just got sick of MTV's pacing, and i just fell out of watching it. might come back to it someday.

Trinity Blood - i tried hard to watch this series, but it just got more and more unbearable as it went on. boring dialogue, and the worst fight scenes ever.

Gun X Sword - started off really awesome and seemed like the most original series to come out in awhile... and then the damn mecha showed up, and the whole show went out the window.

Bakuretsu Tenshi(Burst Angel) - fun show, but the fanservice just got really annoying. may go back and finish it someday.

Full Metal Panic - i don't know. i watched up to episode 4, and after that i just never watched it again.

Did you even start to purchase these series? They shouldn't be on your list if you haven't.

In the extras on the final DVD for the series, they had an interview from Anime Expo 2003 with the creator (Kazuki Akane) and character designer (Nobuteru Yuuki). Yuuki-san says that J was modeled after Sean Connery (Yuuki-san says like the Sean Connery in Highlander. This was his image of J.) and Valgus from The Vison of Escaflowne (Akane-san's image). I've never seen Escaflowne in any of its incarnations, but Sean Connery is my favourite actor. Watching J as this stiff looking man who still always has words of wisdom really sold me on him. When I learned that J was modeled after Sean Connery I figured that's why I liked J so much.

As for the motocycle, that long engine case reminded me of the batmobile from Batman: The Animated Series. To me, that thing was awesome.

I would like to know why MTV2 never bothered to show the second half of the series. What I believe is that MTV never really understood what they acquired so after they aired the first 13 episodes, they decided that they didn't want to waste anymore time on it. I sort of wish that Heat Guy J will be shown on another network so more people can watch it. G$ Tech TV airs quite a few Geneon licensed series and they like their action series so perhaps HGJ will air on it someday.

I've brought all of this up before, but I do love to talk about HGJ. It's a really great series IMHO. Sadly, it just didn't get any attention.

The only series that I have given up on is Love Hina. I tried to keep going with the series, but at the end of disc 4 I just couldn't stand it anymore. Like some other people have said, the constant attacks on Keitaro got very old very quickly. I don't understand how Naru could have any feelings for someone that she bashes around so much. I really did want to find out how it ended, but I didn't think that wasting $17 per DVD, then buying the movies, was really worth it.

DNAngel: The plot got really boring. It wasn't until episode 12 that I realised how pointless this was getting. Krad, my favourite character and one of the only exciting parts, hardly ever appeared. I was dragged through too much pointlessness to see if he'd ever return again. After Daisuke's little idiot situation where his pet was stuck up high and he had to spend ten minutes calling a girl to help him get the pet down, I left. Wow, that was bad. It had a bit of a confusing but interesting start, and fell from there.

Wolf's Rain: The carelessness the characters showed was too annoying to put up with. It had a nice plot, well drawn, interesting for the first 3 episodes. But when I'd gotten two away from the ending, I didn't bother. That's how much it irritated me that the characters didn't seem to care about anyone but themselves throughout the story.

Rurouni Kenshin: Wow. This was my first proper shounen anime, and I really didn't like it. The male characters were interesting, but after 5 episodes I couldn't take any more boredom and repetition.

Trigun: Vash was a very nice character, and I only knew him for two episodes. Maybe it would've caught a little more of my interest if it was better animated?
----

I'm pretty picky. If I don't think well of it, I drop it. No use wasting time. I'm aware that, with Rurouni Kenshin in particular, 'you just need to pass the first arc', but the beginning is supposed to represent the series and draw the right audience in. I guess my interests weren't suited.[/b][/i]

I suggest you continue and get Volume 4. spoiler[The appearance of Mio Hio made it insanely enjoyable again. Then Volume 5 has one of the most awesome relationship building between Daisuke and Riku you'll ever see. ]

Now the one series I dropped this is Izumo. I should have known this would have sucked, but I got intrigued with the concept of the guy and his harem of girls going to another world to save it. Unforutenely, the animation sucked way too much, the plot seemed too predictable, and the fact the girls gained powers and never used it seems like a complete waste of a plot.

The thing with rurouni kenshin is that it has a bad start and end, only the kyoto arc was very addicting

Isn't this series a bit older? i'm curious if the animation was good for its time
