I just want an anime version of Appleseed that lives up to the absolutely fantastic manga. Is that too much to ask?

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is one of those series that I enjoyed watching last Spring. Shame there won't be another season..and manga is ending soon. Damn.
Oh well, nice collection.

I didn't think bamboo would like it given some of the fanservice of yuko, but it's good to see the show getting recommendations by both Bamboo and Key.

I have no idea how Appleseed managed to be a rental worthy title. Everything about it from the perspective of an Appleseed superfan or someone who knows knowing of it is pretty much abhorrent.

Aside from the cheap-looking CGI, the one thing that put me off about Appleseed XIII was that Deunan was portrayed so childishly and constantly pouting. Perhaps I was spoiled from having seen the movies first, but this wasn't quite the mature, competent woman soldier I had respected before, even when being lovey-dovey with Briareos.

Absolutely agree with this statement. I had a fairly strong impression of the series from the first watch-through when it was airing, but my complete marathon rewatch for my own review upped my opinion further. Some of the earlier parts are definitely more impactful once you know where they're headed towards.

I picked up Appleseed XIII as soon as it was released by Funi. Watched it over two or three days, and now I'm re-watching it again with a friend. I decided not to tell him about the episodes being done by separate animation studios until after he's seen all thirteen of them, as I'm curious to see if he notices differences between episodes in animation style (mo-cap versus manual). I actually found there was a fair amount of character development between Deunan and Briareous, well certainly more than the two CG Appleseed movies (not the two movies made from this series). Deunan's occasional pouting and sticking her tongue out threw me off for a moment, until I recalled she did a lot of that in the manga, making it more of a homage. It didn't take me too long to accept the look of the animation and how the characters were drawn. The story did take some interesting turns, but it all seemed to come together by the twelfth episode. The thirteenth episode suckered me in for the punch line. One of the things I liked about the series is that it expanded the geography. It didn't just take place within Olympus, but surrounding areas, including underwater and a desert. The story could have been a bit tighter (and presumably the two Appleseed XIII movies made from the series would have been), but in the end I wasn't disappointed overall with the series. Being a fan of Appleseed, I'm happy to have the Appleseed XIII series in my collection, and I certainly don't have a problem with it ending up in Bamboo's Rental Shelf category.

I fell in love almost immediately with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, but that damn last scene dropped the series for me from a Very Good to a Descent rating. I have have been harsh with this anime, but I probably ought to watch it a second time and see if my bitter impressions sweeten.
Despite my big gripe with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, I cannot deny that this series looks glorious, and the atmosphere is just amazing.

I guess I'm the only one who liked the ending. Actually it was exactly what I expected. I got my copy a day or so after it was announced that the manga was ending. Given that the manga continued beyond the events in the anime, the ending was almost a given.

Asimov's Robot trilogy? Oh, yeah, the fourth novel (Robots and Empire) is currently out of print in the U.S. for some reason, like the second volume of Asimov's complete short stories.

Kamisama Dolls does have its faults yet I still found it to be a great series. The balance and interplay between humour and drama is handled extremely well, the backstory episodes were amazing for the emotional punch, and the faces that Utao made were epic.

Dusk maiden sounds really interesting as does Kamisama Dolls. I guess one of these could replace one of my "stopped" anime for the time being.

She was so funny to watch. You can find more faces on Google Image Search.
