It is a nice gesture but completely unrelated. The pool sounded like an awesome idea!

Wow, how sad. The last thing you expect is a solider who is killed in his own country. I I do agree with the first comment with it being unrelated. Unless the event was near where he died then that'd make sense. Does anyone know if that is the case?

Both were in London, as stated in the article.

Lots of soldiers are killed in their own country. Wars have to be fought somewhere... and one side will eventually be defending their home soil. So yeah, the defenders are soldiers who get killed in their own country.
The event sounded stupid anyway. I'm not one to start pointing the blame at media or videogames for encouraging violence, but seriously, how does swimming in a pool coloured like blood not manage to send some kind of pro-violence message? People are expected to swim in a pool coloured red for fun... it's no wonder the thing was canceled. Resident Evil movies are terrible anyway, and it's in no way appropriate to hold the event any time near the tragic slaying of a UK soldier (RIP).

I know. I was just asking if it was close by. I don't know how big London is so..
Anyway, I can't say anything. I don't know how things work over there so I'm not holding cancelling the event against them.

London is just under 1600km2.
It's a nice gesture. Best to avoid any "controversy" as its now becoming quite a political debate especially with the word terrorism being thrown around. I believe this was the right thing to do... If though as Grooven said, they are unrelated.

Some guy died, let's cancel our entire event based on a game that has absolutely no relevance to the the context of the murder. If he was murdered via being dumped into a tank full of piranha's then I could understand, but not this.
I'm not saying that it doesn't suck when someone gets murdered, and the idea of filling a pool with blood wasn't exactly the most exciting thing ever either, but at the same time, to simply cancel it just because of that seems really over-reactionary.

I just find it absolutely bonkers that the UK media is calling it an act of terrorism...erm...no it isn't? It was a one-off killing. It was horrible, sickening and shouldn't have happened. But was it terrorism? No.

I'll start respecting these soldiers when I get a paid day off work because of their death. Or else, you volunteered to your death, deal with it.

Canceling the event was the right and considerate thing to do.

Considerate yes, right why? I'm a poor soul for arguing a lost battle yes. I can never win against your kind of people, you just say no and have numerous more.

He was killed off duty, I think the fact he is a soldier is irrelevant and the media is using it as a way to create more shock.
Otherwise I think your comment it very ignorant to the fact that soldiers do sign up for a death wish they decided to fight for a country you live in.

I believe he was picked by the killers because he is a soldier. But he was murdered on the London street where there's no expectation for battle, so he volunteered to his death as much as, say, any regular civilian would've volunteered to one's death in the middle of the street.
Anyways, this is more of a PR decision. If enough portion of their market population may consider going thru with it as insensitive, then there's nothing they can do but avoid bad PR: is going thru with it worth/outweigh that bad PR.

According to other sources the pool was also going to be full of realistic looking fake body parts, so can see why it was cancelled.

Oh right, that explains why my car insurance company wants to know my profession.
No. Being a soldier is a commitment perhaps stronger than a marriage. Compare it to average professions if you can't see the obvious picture.
