The poll questions for the: Should Anime be Free? poll

Would just like to comment that i think the poll is somewhat flawed, as it does'nt give a voting option for those that buy because they want to support the creators.
Atleast not an option that makes that intent clear.

"I don't mind paying for anime" or whatever sounds like the answer of a tycoon with to much money. (Well not really, but i hope you get what i mean)

I agree.

(By the way, no, renting anime or previewing it at cons/TV/etc is not an option in many countries. If the poll addresses only American fans then so be it, but in that case make that clear.)

I buy almost as much as I download. I downloaded Elfen Lied, and Scrapped Princess, and I'm currently in the process of purchasing both series. If I like it well enough, even though I've downloaded and watched the whole thing, I'll go ahead and buy it.

I don't think it should be free. I don't mind paying for it. I just can't justify paying 30 bucks for a single DVD and 100+ for a whole box, when there is best buy and online retailers (not hong kong bootlegers F*** them) selling them for marginally cheaper.

I wanted to clarify this in another thread, but I sorta shot myself in the foot and made myself look like an not-so-nice-person.

For a gainfully employed adult who has decent control of his or her finances, anime's pretty damn cheap.

For a student who may be making $8~$15 an hour, and working 20 hours or less a week, things are unfortunately more expensive

It's always interesting to see people still complaining about $30 anime DVDs. Thirty dollars is a small price to pay for a product a company bothered to import, package, and put on a domestic market, taking a chance on it. I can see where you might complain if it has only 2 or 3 episodes on the disc, but if it's around 4 or 5, it's ludicrious to use this as an excuse for buying bootlegs. Especially when there are several discount DVD websites where you can get them cheaper.

The industry needs money to continue making the anime you love so much. To demand free anime is a slap in the face to the hard-working anime industry. Animators aren't exactly swimming in yen over there. It's a labor of love.

The fact that Walmart, Bestbuy, Circuit City, Deepdiscountdvd.com, bestprices.com, overstock.com all sell them for less than 30 makes me wonder if there's some middleman in there that they use as an excuse to have them at such a rediculous MSRP. Same reason why CDs have an SRP of 20 when the only places that sell them for that much are Sam Goody and its affiliates.
