This is a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. Since I'm in high school, and I'm taking a lot of hard classes, I don't have much time to watch anime. By the way, I'm pretty new to anime, started before the summer. I'm trying to figure out what I should do. I download a lot of unliscenced new anime, but I don't really get around to watching all of them. Plus, I have a bunch of old animes that my friends have recommended to me but I haven't watched yet, like Last Exile, Rah Xephon, and some others. I can't decide how to balance my anime viewing time. Should I stick to old anime, new anime, a mix of both? Watch one series first, then go on to another, or watch a whole bunch of them but slowly?
What are your opinions on the subject? |

First off, where the hell have I been that RAHXEPHON is old anime? Last I checked, "old" anime was Space Battleship Yamato or Cutie Honey.
Secondly, by all means expose yourself to as wide a variety of anime as you can. Never EVER let age determine quality. So many of the greatest anime are older. Tenchi Muyo - 1992, Mobile Suit Gundam - 1979, Bubblegum Crisis - 1987, and so on down the list. You'll often find that the artistic individuality and the texture of the stories is actually superior in the older series. |

Well, "old" can indeed mean anything not current, although there is certainly older stuff out there. RahXephon is a few years old at least.
Frankly, you should watch a little of everything. Decide if it's worth your time to continue watching it. There are some older series that still stand up, although a lot of them aren't as good as our own nostalgia wants them to have been. |

well, even an old anime has its charms, due to its specific type of animation and so.
The age of an anime doesn't mean much, the good one will always pop up from time to time. |

If you're limited on time then sample a couple of episodes from several series (both newer and older) until you find 2-3 that you like and follow them to conclusion. Rinse and repeat as needed.
The other top piece of advice I would give any new anime fan is to sample from a wide variety of genres. You will most likely settle on a couple of favorite genres, but don't let that (or a single bad experience) keep you from trying others. You might be surprised what you find yourself liking. For instance, I generally don't like magical girl titles, but a few months ago I tried Princess Tutu on someone's recommendation and found that it really worked for me. Every other veteran anime fan can probably share a similar experience. And once you do decide on a couple of favorite genres, just ask around here and people can recommend the "good stuff" for you. |

its better if you mix both,old and new anime are both great so dont limit yourself to just watching old anime or new anime.
