Hey, I've just seen my first episode of this series and being a big fan of the films this one feels very akward. Nothing really seems to make any sense.

How can everyone go stealth without getting into a suit and keeping their clothes on? Why does Major look like a whore? Why is our usually cold and heartless Major such a yapper all of a sudden?

Does this series take place in an alternate universe? Or is it really based on the movies? Because the storyline is just weird and it feels like a pretty standard action sci fi flick as it is.

Does it get better in future episodes?

Yes to both of those.
I haven't seen the movies, but hopefully I will soon. I really like the series.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex takes place in an alternate universe, so some things from the movies won't apply to the series.

As for the fashion statement made by the Major, she wasn't exactly dressing like a nun in the movies, either. I"ve seen GITS:SAC and the first movie, and I thought she dressed the same way in both. If you've seen pictures of the Major from the manga, then there are moments when she's not even dressed.

I know that GITS:SAC can be hard to follow, but it's easier to understand than a series such as Paranoia Agent.

What about GITS:SAC doesn't make sense?

Major's cyborized, so I guess she can camouflage whenever. I haven't seen the second series, so I'm only guessing. GITS:SAC requires concentrating on the facts and details, something which failed horribly with me. I do agree that it's easier to follow than Paranoia Agent. No spectres anyway.

Thats pretty stupid considering the title: STAND ALONE COMPlEX.
doesn't that sound like an independant series or a sequel? You tell me. Key words: STAND ALONE.

I don't have a problem with the nudity at all, I've got a problem with Major looking like a barbie doll. She also didn't use her combat suit unless she was on a mission in the movie, now she runs around in the office with it (with a leather jacket on top of that).

And I also don't like her red eyes, in the movies she had these mechanic grey eyes with no emotion in them making her kind of spooky.

Stand alone complex could mean anything. I kind of doubt the title refers to "fudge the movie".

They were talking about stand alone individuals or something.

It is true, GitS:SAC has a heavy action back ground, but it's far from standard in my opinion. The physcological and philisophical aspects that are found in the movies are also prevalent in SAC. It are these aspects that really make SAC great. I've only seen half the series (ep. 1-26/52) and it's already my second favorite. If you like a show that encourages thought and can even tweek your beliefs, my advice would be to stick with it.

Oh god yes... Like any series, the first episodes purpose is to grab the viewers attention. Give it a few episodes to really establish itself, it goes far beyond the traditional.

I can kind of understand the reaction...

after all, the GITS movies seemed to be more focused in the realms of SURREAL

The series is generally light-hearted in comparison

Okay let me start by explaining the title first. STAND ALONE COMPLEX. The series over the course of the first 26 episodes revolves around "Stand Alone" episodes which you can just watch and they have nothing to do with the "Complex" episodes.

The "Complex" episodes are those that revolve around the Laughing Man.

In every episode title if you look closely you can see it says "stand alone" or "complex". When watching the series though the complex episodes are in order but stand alone episodes are placed here and there just because.

I believe I read an article here on ANN stating that the complex episodes of GITS SAC will be turned into a movie.

If you've seen the movies and and seen GITS SAC and dont realize its an "alternate universe" then you should get your eyes checked. The "Human" Togusa is about the same age as the movies so it doesnt take place in the past or in the future. Personally I like the series better because of one word: TACHIKOMA.

Sheesh, what's with the dumb reply? Sorry for recognizing the entire cast and noticing the completely referenced introduction scene. I guesse sequels and prequels are considered unusual these days Rolling Eyes .

Anyway, I've just seen the other episodes and I really like episode 3 and 4, especially 4. The laughing man episodes seem to be really interesting.

Well yeah, I kind of miss the gritty atmosphere that made the original GITS such a landmark title. SAC just feels a little too "clean" somehow making it alot more "standard stuff" hence my first statement. But the storyline and story presentation seems upto it, and the humor in episode 3 was great.

hey sorry about that i didn't want to offend you my bad if i did i was being a jerk but i didn't want to make you feel stupid. well anyway the laughing man episodes are awesome and the stand alone arnt that bad either if you liked the movies youll like all the complex episodes although a lot of people claim they were confusing it was because they hadnt really seen the movies and understood the meaning of the story besides wanting to see action. should be no problem for you since youve seen the movies and realize there is more than just action.

Yeah, it's an alternate universe, just like the relationship between the Escaflowne series and movie. It's a fairly common occurance in anime. I prefer SAC over the movies myself but really enjoyed them all.

SAC accures between the two movies time wise. I thought that was made pretty clear if you just did a little bit of background check on the series.

Iemander have some crackers and cheese.
No one is forcing you to watch it if you don't like it. Take it for what it is a series adpeted from the manga and forget about the movies. It's what I did and it worked wonders, but then again I don't seem to be as much of a GiTS fan as you.

Yeah almost forgot, joel_s95387 have you seen the Tachikoma specials? They are hilarious Smile
