Yeah this sounds about right. I agree that Niseoki isn't really that original in it's ideas but it's got execution pretty down pack and it's definently more interesting than a lot of the recent harem romps I've seen(the lead having an actual personally helps with that) and it's nice that it feels like a genuine rom com rather than a fanservice harem fest.
Really surprised there's no anime for it yet though. You'd think with the dry spell JUMP was having for the last couple of years, they'd be pushing this right out of the gate as soon as there was enough material to animate. Well it is fairly popular in Japan so I guess it's when rather than if. |

I've been reading this series in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump over the last month or so. For what it is, its rather competent if unoriginal. But its totally not my genre* so I can't really judge.
*my basic problem is relationships never actually go anywhere. Its just "Will they? Won't they? Awkward mix-up that resets the love triangle!" forever. |

As someone who isn't a manga reader, I've been really looking forward to when Nisekoi finally gets an anime adaption announced. It seems really great from what I've seen of it. Its only a matter of time given how any popular Jump manga will get an anime.

When I first heard about it from Shonen beam they pretty much gave it praise, from those who've expirienced it it pretty much is unoriginal, however since it wasn't my usual shonen sub-genre I pretty much had fun with it, and in my book thats all I'm really asking when I get into a series.

I got mixed feelings for this series right now as it still seems to be dragged out with the occasionally fillers. Otherwise, it's a fun little read that I've been following for awhile and like some others, I also hope an anime adaptation will develop for this series in the future.

one thing i learn from manga is you have to create your harem when you are very young like 6-8 year's old.
I think this type of manga is more of a jdrama than anime. |

I'll fully admit this series isn't anything groundbreaking or original, but it's also one of the only comedy Manga I've read that gets a laugh out of me nearly every chapter, and I look forward to reading the new chapter every week in WSJ.

I think there might be a print edition in the works? When the v2 ebook was released, Jump's twitter account had a bunch of responses to queries about print, telling them to email customer service and ask for it. I did so, and I assume many others did too because this interview said they're going back to negotiate the print rights based on demand (since they previously only had digital). |

You obviously haven't been up to date with the series, ALOT of development has happened between the main character and one of the girls. |

This is a new favorite of mine and I eagerly await both the next installment of the story and the eventual anime adaptation. (Let's face it, it is pretty much inevitable that it will get one...)
In my opinion, Nisekoi is a shining example of how to take well-worn, trope driven content and produce something that is thoroughly enjoyable. The plot devices are old, but the characters are, for the most part, fresh. The use of the childhood playmates with only fuzzy memories of their time together is old as the hills. The way that the details of the story unfold as they find out more about that summer 10 years ago is expertly done. Even seemingly frivolous things that don't seem to have any relation to those lost memories of youth get tied in spoiler[like the recent revelation about the origin of Chitoge's hair bows, which is far outside the scope of this review... It is clear that she associates the bows with her mother, but the mother clued in our protagonist to a deeper reason she wears them.] It is all done with great timing and a fantastic sense of the absurd. I also love that, even though the main character seems to be a pretty laid back, passive type on the surface, when things get serious, his face is drawn in a way that makes him LOOK like the son of a Yakuza boss. It is a periodic reminder that, despite his choice to pursue a life outside of the "family business", he is still who he is. |
