Not sure about the advertising pic here, but definitely looking forward to the movie. It's one of my most favorite series of the past couple of years and it definitely left more room for stories to be told.

Is it only me, or does the artwork looks different than the anime series? Chiaki and Gruier look slightly older.

Yeah, the characters look different. If they use those ugly character designs for this movie (they probably won't), I will be very disappointed.

Can't wait to see this. Just finished the series about 2 weeks ago and loved it. I hope it gets a quick release here cause the wait for 2014 is already long enough. If Sentai plans on getting it I would assume it might come out quicker then one might except but I don't know. Alot of the movies they get these days are from years back so they can easily push they out quick without pressure from the Japanese side of things.

Timeline maybe moving on. They may not be frozen as teenagers rest their "lives". I do hope they are moving along the storyline, doing something more. Taking up the challenge go rest of the galaxy like Captain's disguised father. |

Inquiring minds want to know?
Is this a re-adaption of the TV series? A continuation of the TV series? A completely new story set in the same universe? Or a totally reimagining of it, ala Escaflowne The Movie or Eureka The Movie? As for the character design, they seem to be more inline with the lite novel asthethics but with the TV series changes. |

I remember reading somewhere back when the movie was first announced (it might have been here, but it was reputable) that the movie is a continuation. That the last arc of the show was an original arc for the anime designed to set up for the movie. I believe it is supposed to deal with the big change/adventure Ironbeard mentions at the end of the first season that Marika must decide to be a part of or not by giving up her letter of Marque. |

Movie? I guess that means a sequel series is somewhat unlikely then.
I will remain undecided on the character designs until I see a bigger image. Although Gruier wielding dual-pistols now seems a tad odd. EDIT: Ah if you go to the actual source twitter post and click the picture you get a bigger version. Character designs aren't actually all that different, a little older it seems though yeah. Well yay. I enjoyed Bodacious Space Pirates; I am keen to see this.
I like the character designs, but I especially dig Marika in that pirate captain's get-up. I mean... that hat. Gruier's packing, eh? Well ain't that something. When it was first announced, the winter 2014 release had made me think it would premiere in November or December, so this is inadvertently very good news for me. I wonder why there is such a long time between the end of the series and the premiere of this film. I do hope that doesn't significantly work against its commercial success.
