Abenobashi set! Whoo! I was wondering if it'd get a set released. My hoping paid off this time.

...which is released in 3 DVDs with 4 episodes each with each DVD costing $29.99. Makes sense. |

Samurai Deeper Kyo... Season 1? That seems to imply a Season 2...

Yeah, it makes sense. But look at the other stuff that ADV is selling (which hurts Geneon when advertised in the same news article). Magical Shopping Arcade and Angelic layer= all 13 eps for 49.95 each. Perhaps what really threw me off in thinking Tsukihime isnt a good deal was buying the first 2 seasons of Knight Rider at nearly the same price at full retail (which I did). What happened to competition? I guess if we shell out money for buying the whole series shouldn't we get some kind of deal? Last edited by Isaaru on Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:50 pm; edited 1 time in total |

From what I heard, ADV is releasing Abenobashi and Angelic Layer with more episodes in a DVD but no extras whatsoever so it makes sense that they're releasing them at a cheaper price.

I thought there was allready an SDK box set - I seem to recall purchasing it as a gift for somebody. It was in a small wooden box with all the DVDs. Maybe this is a thinpack set?

I thought that was a bit odd myself. |

Actually it doesn't matter because what's probably going to happen is that they'll either release it again as a compilation and it will cost less. Actually, since they are saying thinpak, I would figure that it would be cheapter. It says boxset, but I read somewhere else that it says "thinpak". Oh, on TRSI they are selling it for $67. But I can beat that. Deepdiscountdvd.com sells things for less than that. In time they will be dropping the price anyway. It's not like the series was flying off the shelf. I liked it though and I'm going to get it. |

yeah, but wouldnt be nice if Tsukihime was released without extras which were'nt special anyway) at 40.00 less. MSAA and Angelic layer was four discs and would cost about 120.00= saving 70 bucks in retail value if you can do without extras (though the extras and booklets on MSAA are cool). Meanwhile Tsukihime was 3 discs (which was pretty cool) costing about 90.00 if you paid full retail for all three disks. I would gladly swipe away the lame textless openers/closers and production art to shave off at least 20.00 there. |

Hey, those textless openings and endings can be a good source for making AMVs!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Angelic Layer 7 discs originally over 26 episodes? -- I don't mind missing out on production sketches and clean themes if it means getting an entire series for dirt cheap. The problem is on those series I like, but not enough to buy each disc, like D*N*Angel. I'd buy the thinpak, but I like the extras on those discs. Oh well. I guess I'll have to settle for the extra cost. I'm hoping Angelic Layer didn't have any worthwhile extras, because I'm interested in buying. |

It was 7 discs. That's why there was a artbox that goes with it. Most of the series that ADV does with the exception of some run 26 episodes on 7 disc. 'Noir' did this and so will 'Madlax'.

There's more Sakura Diaries coming out? How did I never hear about this? Or is this just DVD 1 of the collectors' edition, AKA the first six episodes.
On the ADV Thinpacks--I don't think the DVDs themselves are different. I have the Noir and RahXephon thinpacks, and upon checking a few discs, the extras are there, like interviews, clean OP/ED, and those wonderful ADV Previews . There are no liner notes or inserts with the DVDs (so don't buy the Azumanga Daioh set and expect translator notes!) but that seems to be the only difference. The Angelic Layer liner notes aren't really worth it (one even has spoilers on one of Misaki's matches), so go for the thinpack. I have pirated DVD copies of it, but maybe I'll support ADV again. And yes, AL and many other ADV series are on 7 discs, like RahXephon (26-7), DN Angel (26-7, Full Metal Panic (24-7 ), Chrno Crusade (24-7 ), aside from a few like Rune Soldier (24-6) and the original Eva DVDs (26-8). |
